Wasn't sure were to post this, but I figure someone here should know the answer. What level of protection does the ECBA offer? Specifically the soft armor portion. I've searched everywhere but can't seem to find a legit rating. Also, are the surplus ones to include the plates usually in good condition? I have been thinking about picking a set up partly to have a simple set of armor to hand out if need be (I use an OTV, low pro plate carrier, or concealable ABA level II depending on my needs) , partly because I just think the system is interesting.
We don't publish our Armour Specs Openly, for obvious reasons, Sorry

While I understand the idea there, isn't it a bit pointless considering they can be bought surplus?

not really, you see a lot of surplus is used for re-enactment and buy collectors, so you don't need to know what it is capable of stopping.
If Joe public was caught by our plod out and about wearing body armour, you very likely to spend time answering some very searching questions.

My point was that, if the intention is to prevent potential adversaries from knowing the level of protection UK .mil body armor offers, then what good is with holding the protection rating on the armor when any random foreigner like myself (let alone a foreign .gov or NGO) can buy some of the net and test it. Seems kinda pointless for the UK .gov to say, "we won't tell you what it stops" when anyone can just by one and shoot it.

I think I may have to do that, if for no other reason than the lack of published standards now has me curious.

Make sure you dont wear it when you try it out
Didnt someone die in the US trying out body armour who used to make shooting videos, or did I dream that

That's what started Johnny Knoxville towards Jackass - he was writing for a skating magazine doing stupid articles and in one of them he contacted the manufacturers of a "bulletproof" vest and asked if it would stop a .38 Special - they advised him not to try it - and he did anyway. Word got around and before you know he was getting trampled by bulls...
