A month? That's nothing. I usually wait at least 4 - 8 weeks(Lawrence Twp) and when I lived in Princeton, 9 months on one occasion. A client of mine who lives in Hopewell Township was forced to wait 13 months and they lost her paperwork and made her re-submit it. She had to get her nephew, a Trenton police detective, to strong arm them into giving it to her. So, while I sympathize with you, it could be much, much, much worse.

I think the law states 30 days, so I normally call every day after 30 days and I normally receive my permit in 45 days . I enjoy being a pest!!

They always blame it on the state police. I once called on a Mon. or Tues. and was told it's on the Lt.'s/Sg's desk for a signature. It should be ready by the end of the week or early next week.

Waiting for handgun purchase permits? IT IS YOUR FAULT.

There is absolutely no need to wait ever again, unless it is for your first. Just play the game. Apply for 6 every six months or sooner, depending if you use the exemption or not. Overlap your applications prior to the permits expiration and just turn in the old ones if unused.

Wrong, it is the fault of the issuing police department. Why should anyone have to give more money to this fucking state in the form of $18.00 money orders and $2.00 permits when all of them might not be used? How about the police departments just issue them in a timely manner. It's amazing that they can run a check on your driver's license and/or license plates to see if you are a criminal, but it takes weeks/months to hear from the state police about your record. How come some people here get them inside of a week when others wait months? Do the state police have "favorite" departments that they rush the information to, while others wait?

Did anyone read the part where I said "it usually takes 7 to 10 days" , just trying to find out right now at this time is anyone else waiting for a permit for a longer than usual amount of time. I dont care how anyone did it two months ,three months ,six months ago ,last year , Is anyone at this moment in time under an unusually long waiting period!

Exactly , why should I spend unnecessary cash just to exercise a basic right of property ownership!

i'm in Vernon also, and last time it took around 9 days (business days) to get my permit. that was this past July. i'd give them a call or stop by and see if they have any info––––they're pretty helpful.

Just got mine back. 5 weeks. Washington Township, Morris County. At 4 weeks I inquired about the permits. They said the SP sends them out in batches as opposed to when they are done.

Bedminster Township was right around 8 weeks. I recently spoke with my local FFL dealer who went to a seminar with the state police regarding their turnaround time on background checks. This is apparently slowing the process down for everyone. They are aware of the problem and working ways to expedite the process. I'll believe it when I see it, but its good to know they are aware of the issue and working to fix it.
