Im currently stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC. Im also a NC native. My next assignment has me going to Bliss.
I hear El Paso isnt so great. Ive also been told that I should live in New Mexico take an alternate route to work.
My future wife is a RN in North Carolina so she'll need to find work out there. Can anyone kind of fill me in on where to live, what to expect, etc.
I assume Im heading for good 50BMG country, NC isnt so great for that.
I left there in June 2011 and I will be heading back Jan-Mar 13. I will post more when I get home. If your wife is an RN and willing to work for the DoD, WBAMC is always hurting for medical folks.

Ideally she would work for the DOD. Having never been married, and without further research on my part I always just assumed that the competition for dependent employment was kind of tight. I would welcome any additional info you might have on the Bliss area.
El Paso isn't as bad as it is made out to be. That being said it does have issues. There are decent places to live in El Paso. I don't know where the New Mexico recommendation came from because it doesn't make any sense. Your decisions are really do you live on the east side, west side, or on post. You do not want to live in the lower valley or central El Paso for the most part. WBAMC was very understaffed when I was there last. I was told that they are having a hard time filing the GS positions. Have her check out the USA jobs website. As far as working in El Paso for a local hospital, they are going to want her to be bilingual ( Spanish ).
I shot you a PM.
El Paso isn't a bad place to live. The benefit is you will always have something to do in the city and aren't pressed with having to drive an hour away from the post to find civilization. It is hot though; summer will be in the triple digits.
Depending on what unit you go to (main or east Bliss) you will want to plan on living on that side of town. If you are going to be in one of the BCTs the east side is the place to be. Keep in mind El Paso is pretty spread out east to west side is easily 10-15 miles. I live around the center and my morning drive to work is no less than 20 minutes; it is more like 30.
If you have any other specific questions PM me. I have been in El Paso for about 3 years now.
If you like to four wheel, we go out once a month, we also have time to break out the guns for some target practice, we are a family oriented group. my friend and I are both retired military and run the outings
