Moving to Texas in 2 weeks!
I finally will be getting out of the hole known as Illinois and moving to Texas. San Antonio area specifically. Ive done some online research and we just went down and signed on an apartment in New Braunfels (will be working in Seguin). What local clubs offer USPSA/IPSC? Looks like Bullseye and Cedar Ridge? Are they any good? Am I missing a diamond in the rough?
Check out Austin Rifle Club.
I lived in DuPage County a looong time ago...
Welcome from another midwestern refugee here in Houston.
For a cheap decent range, Lone Star in Lockhart is not bad,
Congrats on the move!
I'm in Spring Branch, on the Comal Co. side.
Dietz range off Hwy. 46 is nice to shoot at, as for IPSC I wouldn't know.
DVC!

Cedar Ridge will be a good start from What I have heard, however I've never done any of that.
Welcome to TX. Get a CHL :) I am also in that area.
Welcome to the land of freedom! Texas Tactical hosts IDPA and Carbine matches at Cedar Ridge Range. Bullethole on the west side of San Antonio offers USPSA.

I live in New Braunfels and shoot at Dietz. It is a nice range yearly membership is I think up to $125 now. With a yearly membership you can shoot when the range is closed. I like to go around 8AM in the Summer. I frequently have the pistol range to myself. Cedar Ridge is nice too. Mr. Ferris, who runs the range is a great pistol smith. Mr. Dietz is really great with rifles, although I think he is retired now. It is toasty here in the Summer, I try to do as much as I can in the mornings. We get a pay back in our mild Winters...hardly ever see snow. Welcome to New Braunfels. John
Thanks for all the kind words! Seems we couldnt go out to a single place to eat and
not have every person greet us warmly and ask if we needed anything. Gotta love the hospitality!
In Illinois the closest we have to practical shooting is outlaw matches (where I would be the host). I wont have any land in Texas to shoot (or hunt) on so I figure I have to join a range to get remotely close to where I was.
Anyone have an STI 2011 they wanna let me fondle?

For sure. Lots of great people in Texas. HOWEVER, there are plenty who will shoot you or stick a knife in your neck for your sneakers in a parking lot, so Watch your 6.

You might run into me then in two weeks. Got me a Bushmaster Patrolman that I need to zero in. Is Manfred the German guy still rangemaster?
Mr. Dietz always practices his German skills with me.

As far as I know he is. They have a few since the membership has grown.

You'll only be an hour and a half or so from STI. BTW, an hour and half drive isn't considered far or long here. I've driven that long for lunch many times.

Austin Gun Liquidators in Round Rock (McNeil Exit) usually has quite a few STIs in stock. Call ahead to make sure they've got the particular one you are interested in of course...

I just escaped Will County a couple months ago. Congrats!
