Any good stores in the Vestal/Endicott/Binghampton area?

Looking for army/navy surplus type shops, but not just 'canteens and camos'; interesting stuff like demilled ordnance, electronics, comms gear, etc

I know most of the outdoor/shooting retailing seems to be getting taken over by Dick's Sporting Goods and Gander Mountain. They're nice but I can go to one of those by my house
Looking for something more interesting.

Not really unfortunately. There are some decent fun shops around, but nothing like what you're looking for.

There is an Army / Navy type store in Cortland , kind of what you are looking for . If you are hard core I'm afraid that you will be disappointed . Several years ago there was a decent surplus
store at the intersection of Rts. 12 and 20 but they have since closed . There is also a small surplus shop several miles north of Utica on Rt. 12 , can't think of the name .

I thought Cortland Army-Navy had closed the storefront permanently after the fire! Just checked their web site and they're open on Rt 11. Good to know, I'll have to swing by there sometime soon.

My uncle seems to have nothing but good to say about Harry's. I've seen him at the Syracuse show and he seems to have a pretty good selection.

Something must have happened to Endicott (before the flood even), that place is a dump. Like 3rd world style ghetto dump.

There is one in Grand Gorge. He also has a bunch of vintage vehicles. Kind of an odd place and in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah, downtown near the High School is bad. West Endicott (west corners, etc) is still nice, and so is north Endicott (up Taft / Buffalo / Oak Hill). Right off main street though.........yeah, full on ghetto.

Although I don't live there , the " triple cities " area has been in decay for decades . They have a decent mayor ( Binghamton ) , but it would take a money bomb the size of D.C. to have any
lasting effect. The Vestal area would be the exception . Because of the University ( i.e. the students from out of the area ) the micro - economy in Vestal is much healthier .
After thinking on it a bit , the only decent surplus shop I have personally seen in N.Y. was / is Bradleys Surplus , in Evans Mills just outside of Fort Drum . They had a website last I knew .

Nothing worthwhile for Surplus in the triple cities

The guy in Grand Gorge has a lot of uniform and camo stuff but not too much else. And his prices aren't great.

Last time I was in Bradleys was about a year ago.

I don't know what some of you expect out of a mil surp store if you think that one is inadequate. It had just about everything you might want in current gear

This is a bit of a haul. I have seen him at the Utica gun shows and bought a little.

The one at 12 and 20 has been closed for years now- they had some great stuff when they first opened but it waned over the years. The one on 12 in Mapledale(Barneveld) is going out of business, I don't know what the name of the shop is but the owner also does the Military Vehicle thing and has a website:

There used to be a cool one on 5s kind of near Fort Herkimer Church when I was a kid- "Grandpop's Attic"- anyone remember that one? Long gone now. I used to travel all over central NY going to Surplus stores, all the good ones are gone now.

What mayor is decent in Binghamton, Ryan is an Idiot and a liberal gun hater

Well . . . I try not to speak unkindly of anyone until they earn it from me personally . Binghamton has suffered mayors far worse than Matt Ryan . Three years ago a close friend of mine lost his
wife to handgun violence at the ACU in Binghamton . ( She was a very nice chinese-american girl named Hong Shu Marsland ) . The police behaved atrociously . They waited outside while thirteen people were being shot dead by one shooter . Mr . Ryan was personally at each funeral . ( welcome, I believe ) . I Personally never heard HIM jump on the liberal bandwagon calling for more gun control ( as many did ). If you know otherwise feel free to enlighten us .
The problems Binghamton has are beyond the grasp of even a GREAT mayor , should they ever get one .

The Civic Center shooting?

I just attended an active shooter class where they played the radio traffic from that one.

Can you show us in this account where it says the officers stayed outside while the guy was actively shooting?

Show you an account ? . . . . No . ..actually . At this late date I am not privy to such information . But , perhaps someone such as yourself might be able to tell us how much time transpired from the time the 911 call came in , to the time an actual entry was made ? I am not a public servant . Without doubt the job comes with immense responsibilities . I can say that Mr. Marsland , and from
what he tells me most (if not all ) families of the victims do not hold the police responsible . If memory serves me at all , I think the time period in question seemed excessive to me , as we waited
for answers . Fair enough ? You can get back to me w/ that number anytime .

It's on the link. He shot himself as he heard the approaching sirens. How could he have continued shooting as officers sat outside as was said

Just so there are no misunderstandings . If law enforcement , or public safety were products purchased at your local box store . . . . . given the WODs , WOTerror , and other more local
examples . . . . . I would want my money back . All of it .

Thanks guys.
Can anyone supply more information on Bradleys? The only one I can find is in Watertown NY, hours and hours north.

Actually, any phone numbers or website address for most of the stores mentioned would be appreciated.

I found this listing but I can't verify it still exists:

TAYLORS MILITARY SURPLUS
545 S MAIN ST
NICHOLS, NY 13812-2616

I found this place, with a website:

Surplus Joe's,
3960 US Rt. 11 South, Cortland NY.

Their website says they are open tues-sat but 'call our 800 number because we're often at gun shows". I called the 800 number and there is a recording saying "we are closed. We will be open tuesday thru thursday but we will be at a gun show this weekend" Given that I called on a thursday afternoon and they obviously didn't know if they were coming or going, I didn't feel motivated to drive 45 minutes west just to find out that they were closed.
