What kind of modifications can I make to a AR15 Service Rifle?

Might sound like a stupid question, but am I allowed to paint the tip of my front sight post orange on my AR15 A2 build and still have it be DCM/CMP/Service-Rifle legal?

In addition, is there any other legal modifications to an A2 build that you guys would recommend?

Thanks!

1. Float tube to eliminate sling tension on the barrel
2..Geissele trigger

Heavy contour barrel to add weight to front.
Weight in butt to balance rifle.
Paint index marks on windage knob and elevation wheel.
Install a good or better leather sling.
Install A1 butt if you are "size challanged".
Install 1/4 or 1/2 minute rear sight.
Install front sight of whatever width you prefer.

Since you are allowed to paint all kinds of index/hash marks all over your rear sight, I don't see any objection to painting the tip of the front sight. If challanged, just cover it with carbide smoke.

Thanks!

Any opinion as to what kind of weight to put into the buttstock as well as where the center of gravity should be?

Most competition AR dealers have the butt weight in their catalogs (I've even got one in my not needed parts drawer).
The rifle should balance at the delta ring (between the handguard and receiver).
