new eqipment recommendations
With the exception of offhand (of course)

, I've improved quite a bit in shooting. In rapid sitting, I'm holding the black (though my position still feels weird, I intend to work on that). My rapid prone scores are also holding the black. In both rapid positions, I tend to shoot way too fast. I think with slowing down I'll do even better.
I am now able to hold the 9 ring in slowfire prone IF everything goes right. My biggest issues are wind, and wrist pain. I want a big, fat, comfy, padded glove for prone. My current glove offers little padding, and is more of an offhand glove. I think the addition of a prone specific oven mitt type glove will work wonders. I used to use such gloves in junior high power, so I know they exist. I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
Also, so long as I sort out my employment issues, I should have the money for a good shooting jacket. I'm wondering if anyone here uses the Champions Choice cordura jacket. I've used the leather version and found it to be very good. Granted, I only used it in prone that day, but the design definitely seems sturdy. I know everyone recommends the Creedmoor hardback, and am wondering how they compare, or if I should save up for a hardback. I'm thinking about posting a WTB ad on the national match forums as soon as I feel comfortable with my finances. I figure there has to be some folks out there who bought jackets when they were skinny and then got fat.
Try looking around on Creedmore's web page. Here is a starting point. They have even thicker ones, not sure how thick you wanted to go...

Cordura versus leather is just one parameter. Take a good look at Champoin's and Creedmore's catalogues before you spend. Both outfits have more or less the same offereings but may not call them the same thing.
A hardback can be Cordura or leather. There are some hybrids with part leather and part Cordura just to make it more confusing.
The price changes will tell you exactly where the differences jump.
You are correct about finding used coats. If you watch, they come up now and then.
One more thing, eventually you will be thicker at your waist and need reading glasses, so make sure you help out a Jr. when your day comes......
Cheers.

I recently found my old shooting jacket from when I shot junior high power. I think it's a little small for juniors shooting high power, but I think I'll donate it to the junior smallbore program.
My current jacket is unfortunately 10 sizes too big. It requires at least a sweat shirt and a heavy military jacket to fit right. Not very practical for summer matches in AZ.

It was a gift from a member of another high power board, and that will be given to my dad if I he starts shooting regularly or given to a new shooter.
Here is the champions choice coat I've been thinking about.
http://www.champchoice.com/prod-NRA_CORDURA_RIFLEMAN_SHOOTING_COAT___NAVY___SIZE_38-939.aspx
New Features for NRA Style Coats Includes:
• Under arm mesh for better ventilation.
• Redesigned taper in front, sides and back for better fit.
• Back pouch to hold glove or other accessories.
Standard NRA in stock Cordura colors-Navy w/White back or Wine w/White back.:
• Outer shell made from 1,000 denier heavy weight Cordura Nylon.
• Lining is heavy quilted canvas with felt interlining for maximum support.
• Standard features: white back to keep the coat cooler in hot climates, and European top grip pads.
• Exclusive features include five nylon adjustable straps with steel
boat anchor type fasteners and precision neck tailoring for better fit.
It's $210 bucks, and I used the leather version in a prone match once. The leather version was $275.
I'm thinking this seems like a good quality, lower cost alternative to a creedmoor hardback. Plus, I'm really skinny and figure I will not necessarily stay this way forever. I can buy a hardback then.
Both the Creedmoor and the CC coats are pretty good, though they fit (slightly) differently. If the CC fits better than the Creedmoor, that's a strong reason to go with it. (Toss in the lower price...) Or, if the Creedmoor fits better, it'll be worth saving up a bit to get the better fitting coat. Fit is really important. Any coat will give you appropriately place rubber and a bit of support, but you'll do less fighting the coat the better it fits. (Meaning your body will determine your position, and your coat will help, rather than the coat forcing you into a position that may or may not be best for your body shape)
I think you are looking for a freeland mit
chanpion shooters supply
That is precisely what I'm looking for. Thanks!
Also, does anyone have any experience with the old Hawkeye leather shooting coats? With luck, I may be able to get one really cheap.

If you can find one, get it. I've worn out two. The second isn't falling off my back and I still use it; however, I have rotted out the leather at the back of my neck and cuffs due to sweat. It's well broken in and works great.
Sounds good. On the big high power forum, it looks like a guy was selling off a club's collection of shooting jackets, and was advertising used hawkeye's in my size for 50 bucks. He said he'd get back to me when he verified he had one that fit. I figure this should last me until 1) I can afford a newer coat or 2) I get fat.

For that price, ask him if he had a fat kid that used a size 46.

This is the ad.

This is the ad. Most everything is size 36 to 40. The hawkeyes are advertised as heavily used, some of them in need of new buckles/straps and stuff. That stuff is cheap, and I know how to sew and have access to my moms heavy duty machine if I have trouble hand stitching, so that isn't a problem for me.
Unfortunately, the seller hasn't gotten back with me to tell me if he has one in my size in stock.
