Any of you getting any assistance from your unit? i.e. orders for points etc. I am contemplating attending the rifle matches.

I am not planning on attending Perry this year, but my unit has allowed me to go on orders to the FFC and All Navy matches this year and last. It is a sticky point with us on orders for several reasons. I am in a Navy unit that provides specific support and we are all required to provide that support before anything else. When you call it a competition instead of marksmanship training, it paints a very specific picture in people's minds that is not quite what the event actually is. If you are looking for ideas to encourage support from your command, a good start is the article in this year's "Book of the AR-15." It has some good points on why the competition exists and the results of the training on the battlefield.

What branch are you with? Is your CO on board with small arms training that will improve your marksmanship skills and serve you in the event of a mobilization?

I've found the biggest boost to getting support for 'sustainment training' events is to make it all about the skills you bring back to the unit. I 'sold' myself as small arms expert to my COC, and in order to keep thise skills sharp I need to shoot matches. That way they're helping you help them.
