I tried to look in the rule book/google but couldn't find a concrete answer. Are Dawson basepads legal in IDPA? I'm looking to start IDPA this summer and have never shot it.

Gun has to hit in a box with magazine and only weight so much (at least in CDP).

IIRC they have a rule about magazines and no extra weight added (lead sinkers) as a basepad added to a 1911 magazine is "extra weight".

magazine cap is either 7, 8, or 10 rounds max +1 in the bore.

IIRC, "bumpers", used to protect the mag from drop damage, are legal. However pads that increase capacity or substantially add weight are not.

I think as long as you didn't go over devision capacity, nor add weight, no one would care at a local match.
