A.A.R. Telluric Group Carbine class
I recently attended the carbine class in St. Augustine Fl held by Telluric group.
I must say I found the class to be interesting and different in a few unexpected ways.
I have over the year attended many classes from some very well known people and have been pleased with them but am always looking for training, I love the structure and the competition and learning new things aspect of classes. This class was all of those but in different ways.
1. it took students out of their comfort zone and emphasized an anal retentive exact zero on your guns in order to make critical hits at distance......and by distance I mean some serious distane. Most classes are shot in the 5-50 yard zone for carbine with little work done past there, this class however had us routinely shooting at 100 yards and I even pushed my SBR out to 375 yards at one point. It was a carbine class and the long gun was the main focus point with small bits of handgun work thrown in but was not the focus like I said.
2. Alot of new ideas came about, we discussed not transitioning to a handgun in close CQB ranges and taking that .5 sec extra to do a speed reload and top off the rifle and have a much much more lethal weapon to fight with. However if the distances were close to the extreme, charging a guy and jamming a red hot gun muzzle in his face was also a great option too.
3. Moving and shooting is one of the most difficult and humbling experiences in my opinion, it will focus you and you will feel like you cant shoot on several of the drills, and if you are going to shoot and move there are easier ways and more difficult ways to do it. Depending on your body type you probably should do one or the other.
We talked alot about the 'Why" because if you know the why of something you will more easily figure out the do part of it.
The instructors are a great bunch of guys with serious exp in some really bad places. They were knowledgeable but there was alot of joking around and smack thrown back and fourth all in good fun. Please look at them if you are looking to broaden your horizon and add some different tools to your tactical toolbox.

I also took this class. Like Sam said it was very different from any other class I've taken. I liked the guys at Telluric Group a lot. They were clearly very familiar with combat situations and real life scenarios. They were able to provide training that was dependent on the situation. Instead of teaching exactly what you should do all the time, they instructed with various ways to do things depending on the circumstance that you found yourself in.
I was humbled when I did the shooting and moving drill that they set up. Most competitions I do involve quite a bit of shooting on the move but this particular drill was the hardest one I’ve ever had to face. They said that it was almost set up to prove how hard it is to shoot on the move and how much we should train for it.
Overall, the class was enjoyable. I am excited to see their new facility that they will be opening up next month in Brunswick, GA. Thanks for a great time guys!
