Considering joining the IALEFI. Any members here with some input?
I'm considering joining the IALEFI and was wondering if any of our members belong. I'm a law enforcement, pistol, rifle, and shotgun instructor and am looking at some of their benefits listed below to get some more materials in print to help me get up-to-date since it has been a while since I've been to the instructor schools and don't get utilized much by my own agency. I was wondering if you actually get the materials listed below or if those are going to run me more major money.
From the IALEFI website:
Members are informed through the IALEFI quarterly magazine, The Firearms Instructor which includes articles, training tips, reports and news of interest to the professional firearms instructor. Members are encouraged to write articles for publication in the magazine. IALEFI also publishes Firearms Training Standards for Law Enforcement Personnel, Standards & Practices Reference Guide for Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, a Tactical Course Handbook, and offers a Handgun Safety Check video and booklet.
IALEFI is a great organization but besides the quarterly electronic magazine, you have to buy the other materials if you want them. They have some great annual and regional training conferences which are very inexpensive and offer some great training by some of the country's best instructors. Additionally, being a member is good for credentials. I say go for it!

+1
Are we talking expensive for the documents listed above? That's what I'm more interested in that anything else. I doubt I'd be able to attend any conferences due to work (they don't promote instructor development), etc. I hate to spend a ton of money and not get reference materials that may or may not be worth it. Their website is lacking, compared to an example like the NRA's instructor stuff, and that's what is making me question it.

This is a timely topic. I'm thinking of joining and going to the Master Instructor Development Program course in Dallas in Feb. Any comments or thoughts? Worthwhile to go?
I am a member mostly for credentialing reasons. It can verify your LE instructor status to others as being a valid member of that organization and might show that you have a certain amount of dedication to your profession by keeping up membership in a recognized professional organization related to your business. Personally I get more info out of the NTOA. I don't really have the need to purchase materials etc, from say the NRA but I do value the many certs I have from them, even though they are fundamentally pretty basic stuff. Again another highly recognized organization. There are however benefits to all of the organizations as far as training / conferences etc are concerned.
Been a member for over 20 years, very good organization, great network of people, good training conferences that ALWAYS promote firearms instructor development.
Check our web site for 2011 Master Instructor Developmemt Course Video from the RTC we hosted.

How would you rate the training at the Master Instructor Development Course??
TOP rate, Law enforcement firearms instructors from all of the country, and internationally do the training, some very well known names in the law enforcement community as well as civilian. Every one has something different to bring to the table. I am not one who believes you have ever heard or learned it all. A fresh prospective, new techniques, learning from past experiences of others as well as excellent networking come with every RTC.
