Iraqi National Guard guys with their brand-spankin' new Arsenal AK's. Some are getting rifles with the new 90' gas block, some are getting the older 45' gas block.

Great pic. The question about the Tamil Tigers refers to the civil war on Sri Lanka between the Tamil's and the government. It's been a long, bloody civil war, still simmering and still dangerous. |

Serbian Special Forces. The one on the right has a milled rifle with a 90 degree gas block so I'm assuming its Arsenal.

Tim, what "model" are the Iraqi National Guard currently using? Looks like the M-7 Carbine (US version)?

Not so much. The M7 Carbine uses the lighter barrel of the AKM and a 90' gas block. There are some rifles like that being issued to the ING.......but the majority are rifles I'm sure the Bulgarians have had in storage for a while...........take a close look at the pictures and you'll see the heavier barrels of the AK-47, the 45" gas block, and the vented gas tube. Basically the Type III milled receiver AK but with synthetic stocks. Here's a pic from earlier in the thread with what would be the military version of the M7 Carbine.

Thanks for the link Templar. I'm going to change out the fire control parts probably next month and put on some synthetic furniture. I think I'll just let a smith put on the lower tang and thread the barrel.

Hmm, I just noticed that the bbl profile on the above pic (mil-spec SA-M7) does look like an AKM, but uses a -47 FSB, seems odd.
I have a gas block like mine for sale in the EE, not sure if it will work on your application. What model are you converting? |

Yeah, I need to get a new fsp and 45 degree gas block, for the cleaning rod and bayonet (I heard that these take a certain bayonet called the pig sticker?). I saw your no ban Bulgarian Gas Block and will send you a pm thanks.

Some more images coming at you. The first picture I think comes from Bulwark 04.
 The next three are interesting, these are older milled ak's(I'm guessing Bulgarian) with the stock removed. The first one is of an Iraqi soldier and the other one is a police officer. I'm guessing that they really wanted a folder, but were stucked with a milled receiver. Well I've got four words for them, "cut that dang tang!"    |
