I live in a ban state and the only AKs that are legal here are the CA M74 Sporters. I had an armorer fix it up and it runs flawlessly. He did an amazing job, basically had to rebuild the weapon but…

I purchased a Midwest industries side rail mount and have a Primary Arms 1-8 optic on it and I am shooting perfectly at 100 meters. However every time I take it off to clean it, the zero shifts. It shifts a little but it’s still annoying from shooting dead center then to shoot slightly to the left after removing the side rail for cleaning then putting it back on.

Would a dust over work better to properly keep my zero after cleaning? I am fairly new to the AK world so if so, which dust cover would you Recommend?

I don’t live in Arizona. That just what my profile says.

Why do you need to take it off to clean?

Also, if you mean one of the covers that attach to the rear sight, ya those should hold zero. I don't even think there is an option for them to move really
