I'm an 07FFL, and have been toying with the idea of milling some VZ58 recievers. Is there enough of a market for stripped recievers out there to make it worthwhile? Would people build them?

Whats the parts kit situation looking like? If the kits are cheap and barrels are intact I could see a market.

At one time they were practically giving the kits away for free if you bought another kit. There are still kits available, mostly with original (15 1/2 inch) barrels for a bit over 300. There have to be tons of kits sitting in basements, as there were never a lot of options for receivers. ORF did receivers, which got mixed reviews.
They're awesome rifles, and really deserve to be built. The only thing needed to change from fixed stock to folder iksis to undo a screw or two and swap them. Apex currently has kits. |

I see them occasionally on gunbroker, but I don't know where else they may be. I don't plan on supplying parts kits, just the receivers.

I am not frozen by political correctness. Beware.
If it weren't for double standards, the Left would have no standards at all. |
I have a kit in the closet, but I thought they were involved in order to build. Never a lot of choices with them. Not sure on other american parts for them either. Last time I tried to sell the kit, had no luck with it.
Will probably end up getting a Czech and using it for parts. |

Yes. I have a mint kit. Looking for a reciever.

Tortort Manufacturing is supposed to be working on one in either 80% or 100% receiver configurations. There have been some delays...

Well. We are waiting?

Im looking for 1.

Looks like OP hasn't posted since 12/18.

Anybody making recievers yet?

Several companies have made them over the years to include repair sections. The kits are still cheap but the work is more than most want to do. The tolerance between the barrel and receiver is crazy tight. Then get the trigger mech to work is a trick in itself.
The VZ58 is an awesome rifle, but just too proprietary. OP, if you can design a receiver to use an AK mag, a VZ58 kit, some kind of new trigger mech and can keep the cost down, I'd think you'd have a winner from a builder stand point. |

I would be in for one. I would prefer to keep it original, but improvements are always nice.

In GD a poster showed building a VZ-58 on a new receiver.

For those looking for parts kits, apex has them on sale for $230 +tax/shipping! https://www.apexgunparts.com/czech-vz-58-parts-kit-15-5-barrel-sid-folder-mixed-finish-no-upper-hg-7-62x39-gd.html
You will need the receiver and upper handguard to complete it. Tortort is making lowers according to apex on a Reddit post they just made. These kits have been creeping up to $400 price lately so nows the time if you want one. Get it. |

I picked up one of the $230 BF kits as soon as I got the email. I guess this will suffice while I wait for MyGuns to get back in business so I can finish my Yugo M64 reweld. It looks like Assault Weapons of Ohio is the only place with receivers in stock as of my typing this.

Yes, exact same receiver.
I can pull my side folder off with one screw and drop the fixed stock in its place. |

Picked up one of the parts kit yesterday. Should be a fun project.

Assault Weapons of Ohio is now saying they will be batching receivers every 2 weeks
Ordered a handful of kits last night, could be a fun project. Less rivets and special tools than an AK but more involved than slapping together an AR. Apex still has tons of kits with the 15.5 barrel, thinking I will pin and weld a thread adapter to 5/8 on the front to get to the 16" length. No sense spending a stamp for 1/2". Currently have an OOW VZ2000, they pinned a little extension "tube" on the end. Nice job but obviously can't mount anything on it. |

Some places are selling kits with the original receiver pieces....coudl reweld one if you're willing to make a jig and do some milling afterwards.
