I still haven't seen someone post "SHSIBI" (pronounced "sh-C-B"), but then again, its a "common use on AR15.com" list.
When asked about one's performance after a particularly lousy match, or after any other unluck or unfortunate event, one may answer, "Sh-C-B" ("should have stayed in bed instead") I like it, and, although rare, I don't think it originated as an "Otto-ism" Cheers, Otto |

LOL I'll have to start a new list of acronyms for locked threads...  Yes, you nailed it. I'm not sure, but I think that was the first time that acronym was ever used. You witnessed the birth of a new classic(?). I like it so much I'm going to add it to the front page even though it has only been used just that one time as far as I know. It now has a permanent home at the above link should it ever go missing here. FNMI, BFI, and OAI are missing. FS - flash suppressor, and its permanently attached brother, the PAFS. FAR is Featherweight Assault Rifle originally an OAI term IIRC. GMT, Greenwich Mean Time. IRL, In Real Life. A) Fixed, thanks brass, that URL button on the posting screen is ate up. I hate losing the character count consumed by the extra url=whatever.com before the actual link so I dele it. Must have missed that one or something similar.
B) Mission Enemy Troops Terrain-Time. Or was you funnin me about something I forgot?  Glad someone is working on this list, I try not to spend time on "fun" projects but this one was needed. Nice to see so much of my shorthand holding its own for so long. |

Whoever runs that web site got it a bit out of order. I used METT-T on a near daily basis. Not that really makes a difference but the actual order is Mission, Enemy, TIME, terrain, and TROOPS available. It won't effect the end result, but when you've used somethig for 9 years you notice when it ain't quite right. Just like OCOKA - you can jumble that around. Nothing will change but OACOK looks goofy. |

ETA, 82nd beat me to OCOKA. Brass, They're a checklist, you can't forget nothing in combat. Aside from common sense not being so common, in wartime you get all sorts in the military. Some lack more than common sense. |

You must consider that the military receives young kids sometimes with little or no tactical sense. Throw a 17 year old machine gunner on the line, tell him to dig in and, if he hasn't been properly taught, you may face vulnerabilities. Its another tool to ensure correct and proper tactics. |

My Ranger school class was the first to get the new "green" books (change from the yellow). That's when I first noticed them changing around the OPORD and jumbling some acronyms - I swear they had OACOK in there (might've been somewhere else though). Man I hated that new op-order arrangement. Especially after getting everything in the yellow book drilled into your memory in pre-ranger. |

My copy (gift from a former CO) is blue.  brass, I stopped in chat a couple times but I'm working nights now so it's usually...well....around this time of the morning. That, and Ghost Recon is taking up a lot of my time. I dug out the old disk and starting hunting terrorists in North Ossetia when the Chechens pulled their stunt IRL.  Yes, you did mention I rock, I also swing, but I never sway hehe. |

That sounds about right then. That's what ours probably said (I don't recall). I was in the Dec. class. We didn't know we were getting the new handbooks until we got to Mountains (after city and desert). So I guess it would've been '92 by then (but certainly not July). And from what I understand, they don't even have desert phase any longer. We were also the class to test out the new black jungle boots. Some of them were great and some of them blew out the back side. It was hit or miss on that one. It especially sucked for the ones who had the bad boots - after they blew out, they got a new pair. So it was blister central all over again. I felt pretty sorry for those fellas. Anyway, I have no point to make...just rambling...sorry |

I updated the list to say that he popularized it. There are documented instances of others using it before him, and definitively determining the origin of a phrase as general as that phrase is, for all practical purposes, impossible.
Yes, that is a good resource. I linked to it in an earlier post on this thread (that post also explains why I don't add every acronym contributed here to the front page, even though I appreciate all the contributions). I guess I should add that link to the front page so that it is more visible. This is also a useful reference from time to time. Thanks for the contributions guys, and big thanks to Tweak for his big contribution. Front page updated. |

Guys, no apologies are necessary. I was just joking with you. I tried to convey that with the smileys and 'J/K' acronym (in keeping with the spirit of a thread about acronyms):
I really didn't/don't mind. First, you made some good contributions, particularly Tweak who not only took a fair amount of his time to read through the front page, compile his own list of acronyms, and post them for me, but who also linked to this list from his posts. Second, I honestly don't care what gets posted in the back pages of this thread. If people contribute good acronyms, I will add them to the front page. If people chat, go off topic or even post BOTDs, I don't think it really matters because I don't expect people to scroll through six or more pages of postings searching for acronyms anyway. That's why I compile the acronyms on the front page for easy reference. Finally, it isn't really my thread. I started it but I don't think I own it in any way. I'm just helping to maintain a resource for ar15.com readers. Carry on, and don't mind me. I just thought some friendly tweaking (pun intended) was in order when I found three moderators having a friendly chat among themselves in this thread. Maybe I didn't do such a good job. Levity seems to be too hard to carry off through a keyboard. |
