I know someone who has a DPMS upper and I'm planning on ordering a V22 today or tomorrow.  I can check it out when I get it.

It sure is good to see you're willing to help out -- and it just might work out good for you too if it looks like the DPMS mag will work!
One thing I need to ask you to try though -- since it looks like the DPMS magazine has an extra little tab on the left feed ear you might want to try the V-22 mag in the DPMS upper and see if it will fit and feed -- it may not eject the cartridges from the DPMS because the V-22 magazine doesn't have that little extra tab on the left side. I don't think the DPMS mag will fit all the way into the V-22 due to that tab but compare them side-by-side.

Would it be possible for you to post pictures of the two types of mags when you get your V-22?

Will do.  I should have pictures next week sometime.  I wish those DPMS 25 rounders were in stock...  I imagine they will be in high demand for a while.

They will really be in high demand if it turns out the DPMS mag, with a minor modification, will work in the V-22!

I am in the process of contacting a couple of manufacturers to see what can be done. I'm sure if there is enough interest, one of them may be talked into a small (1-2k) production run.

metoo,
Did you have any luck trying to find somebody that would make the hi-cap mags for the V-22? Do you know if anybody had any luck contacting the Southern Gun company over in England about shipping to the States or maybe a group buy?

No luck yet. As mentioned previously, ProMag is supposed to release some 25-round molded plastic mags similar to the V22 10-round mags after the SHOT Show. No one seems to be interested in a run of stamped metal....all claim insufficient market.
I haven't had any reports from SGC.
Will have to piece something together myself.

metoo,
I'm sorry I sidetracked your topic with the "make your own" magazine stuff. If you are lucky maybe yfs200 can verify that the DPMS mag will fit/work in the V-22. The DPMS mags cost like $50 for the 25 round mag.

Yeah I would agree with the market.
It will cost at least $5000-$7500 for tooling on plastic style mags for a 22lr AR...Just to recoup your tooling investment  you would have to sell at least 1000 mags.  I don't have any experience in stamp metal tooling, but I would expect it is pretty high too.

CNC Machined aluminum is the best for short runs, but the cost are much higher....at $50 to $75 a mag your going to lose half of your market, which only shrinks the small sales base.  Look at tacticalinc. com's 10/22 mag.  People always complain about the cost of those mags....they feed and fucntion perfectly (from what I hear) but the price is the only bad point (I hear).

Now if someone developed a mag that would work in 2-3 different conversion systems, then you have a potential for larger sales and maybe enough to purchase tooling.

Must have more ammo!!!  Wish it could be full-auto too !!!!!

I've been followign this thread to see what happens and figured i'd throw in .02.  About a month or so ago i bought a Butler creek 25 shot hot lip 10/22 magazine to try and fit it to my v-22. I basically shaved plastic off of the sides and fitted wooden blocks so as to fit my ar. It was pretty tedious and considering the time and cost of the mag i would'nt try again, at least not with the tools i used.

How did it work?...So so i guess. It was only reliable with the last 15 shots in the mag. The problem was the feed lips catching the bullets. Or the bullets getting wedged in the feed lips. Apparently some of the plastic i had to remove reduced the feed lips support. I bet it would have worked fine if the feed lips were steel! But for now I am waiting for any viable alternative.  I dont have a digital camera so i can't post a pic.

To anyone considering a dedicated upper, i would say get a 10/22 for now, the suck factor with 10 shots pegs the needle! Especially if you have kids that shoot with you!

I also would LOVE to have one! But the import duties on top of $250 just takes takes them out of my range.

I wish ProMag would get some of the plastic ones on the market and/or I could find a DPMS...

Let's keep this thread alive to keep the news coming!

Richard,

It sounds like there has been a drastic increase in demand since your last offer...I would dearly love to get my hands on 2-4 depending on the cost...do you know the current price per mag?

I dont know if PayPal is international or not, but I am sure that we could work out some form of secure payment that would ensure you didnt get hosed for your trouble.

Hi guys, just found this thread by accident (damn SC you need to tell me about these threaads).

I'm the original designer of the V22. I was screwed by CZ and do not get any royalities on it so I refused to support the design. The damn CZ made some minor changes to my design that made it less reliable. The friggin original mags had a solid delrin follower that worked 100% better than the POS follower that they designed. It cost them 5 cents more per mag but they did not want to use them.

As someone mentioned earlier in this thread the V22 upper will work with Cenier mags if the bottom of the bolt is slightly modified (another thing CZ changed on me so you couldn't use Cenier mags, yes they planned it that way so you had to buy their mags).

I have the original high cap 30 rnd mag that I designed for the upper (I designed during the mag ban but had designed one anyway) but I have refused to release it since that would support those POS CZ people. (to say I'm a bit bitter about the whole thing is an understatement).

As for spare parts or any thing else you guys need, I have all the original drawings and will freely give them away to those that want them, screw you CZ (please don't ask for them if you do not have a machine shop or access to one since I'll most likely be flooded from this offer)

BTW it only cost CZ $70 to make and ship those uppers so if you pay more than $150 for one your being screwed. Sorry if I sound a bit bitter but I am

If you don't believe me on the above just ask SC, he'll tell you and has seen my original and the original castings for the upper.

Damn Mongo that sucks......sorry to hear that.

Is there any chance of you manufacturing the 30 rd mags and selling them for a profit.
Those of us with  CZ uppers are desperate for high capacity mags for the things.

What kind of machine shop capabilities are we talking about?  Would a standard mini mill
be enough?
Link Posted: 3/31/2006 11:16:35 AM EDT

Mongo, if you can pen something like the V22 why not go for it and do something beter than it or the Rhineland Arms - that's generating a lot of interest.
I'd love to see a semi-auto along the lines of the old WWII Sten machine gun or a belt fed semi auto M1919 (to comply with POS UK Firearm reg's) - imagine turning up at the range with one of those!
