That would be Col. (retired) Mark Westrom. He is a great guy, a true gentleman, and a straight shooter. My favorite guy in the industry. |

Those were Colt's Model 01's, and they were not US Property marked, serial numbers ran up to 13,XXX. The Colt's Model 02 was the first US Property marked AR-15, and were delivered in 1963/64, serial number range 18,XXX-39,XXX. Free US Service rifle trivia of the day. |

hey, none of that book learning from you! |

Ekie, that is exactly correct. He is a really nice guy and very proud of his company and its products, and I like that. He also did not talk badly about any of the competition and that, I respect. I am also convinced that nobody at Colt, Bushmaster, RRA and others would badmouth the competition either. There are all classy companies. (They keep telling me to take my rose-colored glasses off, but I LIKE my rose-colored glasses. Do you have a problem with that?) |

There was only the 1 OLD rifle in the case which I snagged so maybe it was not US marked. All the others were certainly newer Colt M16's and were US Prop marked. One of those was the one with the backwards hammer spring I had to fix. All had armorer's tags from 1985 or so and this was around 2000 whe we played with them. |

Doing this from memory, Armalite sold AR15 rights to Colt in the 60's so could not build them after that. Armalite eventually had others make their other designs like the AR-180 in England and Japan until they shut their doors around 1980 or so. As Colt patents expired in the middle 80’s, Bushmaster started making AR15s, followed by others. In the late 80’s a company named Eagle Arms appeared with AR15s. When they got the cash together they tracked down the owner of the Armalite name (on paper) and bought it from him. So was born the new Armalite rifle around 1990-1992. In 2005 they forgot to pay their web bills and disappeared for a few weeks. I do okay? |
man that is getting crazy common nowadays, had to tack a thread in Troubleshooting ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=66&t=241858
you forgot to start out with, "a friend told me." |
Now if Eagle would only buy that California toy company and build ARs with their name on the side too... |
I guess not JUST nowadays. The whole case of rifles had 1985 or 1986 armorer's tags on them as did the whole case before the airman cut it open. Major light strikes and the rifle would not run. I popped out the FCG pins with a round of ammo, fixed the spring and put it all back together. The reservists were in awe. The one airman ended up coming back to shoot matches with us until he got moved when they closed March Air Force Base. |

hatYou are just like the L.A. Times only fatter and with half the I.Q. points. Whatever high school you are the janitor for is lucky to have you. |
Thanks JJ. Actually I really don’t care much anymore. I got over it yesterday I’m just having some fun at this assholes expense now. |
Bushy is what I went with and I've been happy with it.
Colt is over-priced and over-rated if you ask me. |
You know better, ain't none of that found in a book, yet. |
Agreed on Mark, rose colored glasses account for the rest. |
Yeah, the orginal AR-15 delivered were not US Property marked, they were COTS purchased. Your memory does you well. |
This guy is fantastic, we should keep him. |
but those USAF folks right?
shush you troublemaker
don't I know it, the research alone is a killer |
Why yes, they were, and your point is??? Shall we also debate 9mm vs 45, glock vs 1911 and maybe torque vs horsepower while we are at it? |
I just invited him back, but he will probably decline though...
Talk about thread drift by the way. I just checked my stats. Woo Hoo, I'm up to 0.35 posts per day. Just a couple days ago it was only 0.31 I'm going for the big 0.4 by the end of the week! But alas, I'm going to bed now. |

Okay I'm sick of this. You ARE a horses ass. He did NOT ARGUE and did NOT use FALSE information! You're an idiot who doesn't understand enlish. He said, 1. A Marine armorer who was a close friend of his, said Armalite was making some of the A2's for the Marines. And 2. He said he had never actually seen that, varified it, with his own two eyes. He SAID this!!! Both statements are, as far as we know, TRUE! He never said Armalite made A2's for the military!! But you jumped on his ass like he did! So, seriously go away if you can't grow up! What the hell is wrong with you? F*ck. |
Whoops, foot in mouth. |
I dont understand Enlish either !?!? |
how does catching my spelling error make my points any less valid? H
Just remember, whenever you hear people talking about what a piece of shit the M-16 is and whenever you hear people talking about how the rifles they used when they were in the servbice were jam-o-matics, they're talking about genuine mil-spec Colts.
Ah ha! It's Tweak's fault my Oly couldn't go three rounds without jamming. |
I am amazed that this battle still rages?!?! Thanks to those that actually took the time to read what I wrote. To the others I would say invest your time in something better. And for God’s sake get laid! Why don’t you boys all get together up there in Washington State with Tweak and play deliverance or something. He
