For me, orange is easy to see through the ejection port, to check for an empty mag.

What about the fact that the bolt is locked back?

Shouldn't you be somewhere banning something?

I'm wondering why a different colored mag follower would help you identify different ammo in that mag. Won't they be buried inside the mag body and not visible until the mag's emptied?

If you want to identify different ammo types in magazines, mark the OUTSIDE of the mag.

As for follower color - who cares?

Just be fookin glad that Magpul is making these followers at all.

What do you mean by Gen 1 is the same as Gen 2?  There is molding differences.

I didn't say that they are the same; I said that I don't see no difference in them in terms of reliability; I know that they are subtle differences in between Gen 1 and Gen 2 followers, such as contact surface for thge rounds, removal of excess material where the follower makes contact witht the magazine tube, raised area where the follower engages the bolt stop, etc...

What I meant to say is that I don't see any difference in the way my mags operate with either follower (I picked up 5 2nd Gen followers in gray today). THat's what I said.

I think the Red-Orange looks better. I am really surprised so many people want a bright color. I mean, I like it, but I figured most people would want gray. I would like to see a flourescent green. It would be like the green military followers, but vivid.

With enough use, you should be able to "feel" that the bolt locked back and the mag is empty after shooting, atleast that is how I always knew.

I ordered grey. Guns stuff should be all grey. I feel black is too dark for a gun finish. Even at night, grey is harder to see than black.

if you have to check if your 30 round mag is empty in the heat of battle, chances are its probably is.  Dump it and replace with a fresh one.

A useful observation when it comes to magazines followers...

I'll stick with coyote brown.

+1 red-orange.

I'm using the bright color like a warning flag that I'm holding an empty mag.  The brighter the better.

I'm still surprised by the level of discussion that MagPul has started up by offering the Gen-2 in two different colors.

Alright, I'll open my mouth in this seemingly useless thread.  I like the color of the old followers.  Ultimately I like the high-viz followers in general and would buy them as long as they stay in the same color spectrum.  I like the reddish colors and would even buy a hot pink if it were standard.

That being said, I would prefer it if they continued their path on not re-using the same colors on two different generations of followers, and as such, would prefer it if they did not go back to the red-orange they used on the first gen followers.  Keeps honest people honest you know.  I'd go for a bright red though...

Is there a difference in the quality, function, or smell of these very similar looking followers?

OR, is this strictly a "What's your favorite color?" type of thing?

This may qualify as one of the more Galactically Weak threads I've seen in quite a while...

We went with the lighter Orange as it is a stock color so we thought the lead time and cost would be less.

It turns out however that the custom color actully costs the same and takes less time to get in so if you really like the old red/orange we could probably get back to something close to it.

I like the new orange...

The reddish color looks more evil!
The brighter orange would be more practical though.

Aw Hell, I'd take either one...

I really don't give a crap, they're going to be covered in carbon within a couple months anyways.

As long as they are reliable.... and I know they will be.
