A few months ago I bought one of the Puerto Rican 601 parts kits Apex had fortunately it came with a magwell section.  So a few weeks ago I sent it off to Braceman for him to work his magic on and tonight i got an email from him letting me know it’s finished this is my 6th? Reweld I’ve had him do and he has yet to disappoint!  (I know I’m preaching to the choir here)

Here’s some photos…

He is a magician, very little margin for error on that one. Looks excellent!

Wow!  Great job!  I was the first to have Braceman weld an XM16E1 to an 80% lower.  I e had him do six 6️⃣ f them total.  I have Colt, GM, and H&R magwells welded to 80% lowers.  My prize is my XM177E2. It was restored with all original parts except the moderator.  Those are illegal in my state.  Super job on your 601!

Yeah I’ve only ever seen 4 (this being the 5th) myself

Thank you!  I remember your XM177E2 my XM16E1 magwell with the raised plus cost around $10 less than what you paid for that E2 magwell

$3-4k. Mine with the magwell was closer to $4k but it also came with complete 601 upper, Winchester 1/14 twist barrel 601 BCG, 601 pistol grip.  In fact the only things in the kit that weren’t from a 601 are the hand guards, buttstock, buffer, and charging handle

Yeah see, I need to work on my retro knowledge. The kits that I saw were obviously not 601s.

It pained me to let mine go, but at the same time, what I got for it was hard to refuse.

I just hope it has been turned into a faithful clone. Theres a rifle in the Vickers guide that was only 7 digits later off the production floor

Serial number 13,900 still had a Winchester barrel? I thought Colt started making their own in ~1962?

Unsure of the serial range for these Puerto Rico kits, but would not be surprised if uppers and lowers were swapped

Mine did.  With Colt nothing ever surprises me anymore.  I have an XM16E1 in the 500,000 serial number range that has the raised plus on the fence

My 601 barrel

Was yours the one that was on Gunbroker a few years ago?  It sucks you had to let it go considering the rarity of them

No.  The only marking that was visible was P.R. And half of a number so I’m not sure what I’d have him reproduce. The “R” is still visible though

BTW that’s a sweet reweld you had must’ve sucked to let that one go

I would wager that the number on the side of the magazine well was "R31253", as is seen on the side of the stock.
