Which one do you like better?
I have an A2 style rifle I started off with an A2 stock. It shot pretty good with it but then I thought I'll try an A1 stock. I had that A1 on there for a little while and it was good too, but I decided today to switch back to my A2 stock and oh man what a difference. You wouldn't think that 5/8" would make that much of a difference but it does. What I noticed was the recoil with A1 stock just isn't there with the A2. For me the A2 just fits so tight in the pocket, it's just solid, stable and doesn't give at all. I've heard haters for the A2 but for me it's the best. I'm 5'11" and got long donkey kong arms though. |

I find the A2 too long.
A1 is the perfect length imo. |

I prefer A1 length personally but for taller people the extra length of the A2 might be preferable. For average height people I think most would prefer the A1.

A1 w/ an A2 buttplate...

Even at 6’2” with long arms, I prefer the A1.

I prefer the A1 with the a2 buttplate. The a2 is certainly fine though. It does get to be a stretch when wearing layers though.

A1. Sure wish someone would start offering the Colt CS again. I like full-stocked carbines.

A2's alright, but I find the A1 length just fine and works better with layers and armor.

Voted A1. I took a minty A1 type E that I had and combined it with a 16" PSA premium upper and a TA11 for a nicely balanced carbine.

Good question, I've been bouncing around the idea of dropping all my collapsible stocks and replacing them with the A1. It's just more comfortable.
I don't have to worry about body armor or heavy coats so they are just not needed. |

I didn't know an A2 butt plate would fit correctly on an A1 stock. I'm going to try that out now.

Either is fine with me, but I think the A2 looks odd with a barrel shorter than 20-18in

I have an A1 stock left over from an AR I owned years ago. And I have an AR that came with an A2 stock. So in ARFCOM fashion, I bought an A5 length buffer tube and MagPul CTR stock to replace the rifle length buffer tube and A2 stock with a solid lock up adjustable stock that anyone can love, hate, or regard with indifference. And I have a left over parts drawer with two stocks - A1 and A2, and a rifle length buffer tube.
MHO, YMMV, etc. |

Don't be so open-minded that your brains fall out.
General education should not be mere job training, but training in how to be fully human. |
I'm 6'3" tall with arms/build plenty big enough to shoot with an A2 but I just don't like them.
The A1 is just more comfortable for me. I've put them on several AR rifle builds and even one carbine build. |

iirc the longer stock was as a result of HEL's suggestion of making the stock 1" longer to allow for better
placement for the eye behind the A2 sight. The 5/8"th was the compromise. I like them both, all depends on the build. |
