Been looking at piston uppers (actually just bought a 16" PWS Mk 116 Mod 1) and want something in the 10.4-10.5" range.
I really like a real HK416 upper, and I'll get one but that'll take time. In the interim looking for something a little more affordable. What are some of the favorite 10.5" uppers around here? I see that Brownells has a knock-off -- they any good? What should I be looking at? Will be running it suppressed. Thanks! |

LWRC. Bought mine from Xtreme guns and ammo...also if you find what you like "make an offer" They accepted mine that was $250 less than asking

This sounds somewhat repetitive since you just bought a PWS 16" piston upper but how about their MK111 MOD 1-M Upper in .223? It's not your desired 10.4-5" but just a little more at 11.85". I have one with about 3k suppressed rounds through it, 1/2 of which was steel cased garbage ammo and not a hiccup.

I have a POF 10.5 that has been very reliable. Got in 2013 and now have 6k rds through it. Have other POF rifles but the 10.5 is my favorite.

My suggestion would be to get an HK MR556 upper second hand, low round count.
Some guys are selling them with already cut down barrels, so you'd be ready to go. Or you get the 16" and have a competent gunsmith chop, thread, and crown it. The only real downside to the MR556 barrels are that they're not chrome lined or nitrided. They are cold hammer forged, though. I chopped mine to 12.5" at work and used one of our industry partners that does our black nitride to treat the barrel. I'm happy with it, got what I wanted for a lot less than a real HK416 upper would cost. |

Absolutely amazing guns. I run mine suppressed 100% of the time. Zero malfunctions many many thousands of rounds of absolutely dogshit ammo. I was lucky enough to score a second NIB MK111 MOD 1-M upper on gunbroker recently for $550.

I have an MR556 and a Sig 516 in 10.5 (or 10"?). Either is good to go. I actually prefer my 516 over anything else that I own, and I have several.

Go to YouTube and watch Iraqvertan8888, and watch his POF 10.5” meltdown, I think it’s ran over 2000 rds before it stopped running full auto, but still worked in semi.
