Bought two bottles of new LSA from Sportsman's Guide the other day.

https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/us-military-surplus-lsa-weapons-oil-2-pack-new?a=1947297

I have read and seen one video where the stuff is white in color.  The stuff in these two bottles is like a dark beer.  I shook them up thoroughly before pouring a sample.  No objectionable smell.

Does it change color if heated up or over long-term storage?  Did someone replace the contents with something else?

Looks white.  You will probably need a paint shaker if they have been sitting around for a while.  I have 3 quarts that are at least 30 years old, I will bet money that it's current state is as you describe.
