Has anyone ever chronographed an Aero Precision rifle?

I have seen a few sources that state muzzle velocity is fairly low compared to other brands.

Would like to see actual data, if anyone has it.

Please cite sources. I’m curious if you’re reading video game forums.

I thinks that's a function of ammo.
aero are BA barrels.

My 20” DMR barrel pushes 77smk 2760fps with 23.9gr of 8208. My Aero Solus 308 pushes 168TMK 2730fps with 43.4gr of 8208. They are both accurate and fast enough for what I need.

Brownels is doing an AR mistake video list atm. They found if you over tighten the muzzle device it can constrict the crown. Possibly enough to effect velocity. Otherwise I see no way for one barrel to shoot slower than another. Keep in mind that different people with different chronographs, at different locations across the country, with different ammo lots and such, are all going to give you different results.

Different barrels of the same length can definitely have different velocitie. It usually isn't a huge difference. My JP and BA 14.5 barrels shoot slower than my Criterion 14.5. I don't know why it happens, but I know it's a thing.

<Both of these loads are HOT by my standards.

I consider 2650 fps +/- a little, a working load with 77 grain bullets fired from a 20" ar-15 barrel.

I consider 2650 fps a maximum load with 168 grain bullets fired from a 24" barrel. 2600 fps being a safe load for use in hot weather.

It’s not uncommon to have two identical length barrels shoot an identical load at different velocities.  How large of a difference depends, but I’ve chrono’d enough guns, many side by side to see it happen quite often.

That said, you would need a fairly large test to even attempt at making a definitive statement that Aero (BA) barrels are across the board, slower shooting than other makes.  Off the top of my head you’d need multiple barrel lengths, multiple barrels of different manufacture for each length, multiples of each barrel to eliminate the “single sample size” issue, plus enough ammo from the same lot to test it all.  There may be other things that I’m missing, but I’d think that would just be to start.

So we’re talking thousands or tens of thousands of dollars, to prove what?

End of the day, a small velocity drop realistically isn’t going to mean much for 99% of end users.  Even more so for the type of shooting one would typically be doing with Aero rifles/barrels.  Then there’s the reality that this is all just some bunk rumor that isn’t accurate, so we’ve now spent a shit ton of money disproving a claim that didn’t actually matter in the first place.

If you could, please slug it with soft lead and measure the bore+groove diameters and land widths.

My question was from an old thread (not mine).  It looks like the question was never answered.

Watching this video here, an 18" inch Aero barrel had lower muzzle velocity than a 16" inch BCM barrel.  This was with 55gr Fiochi:
Aero 18"  2837.3 fps
BCM 16"  2851.1 fps

He got a similar result with a 62gr bullet:
Aero 18"  2807.3 fps
BCM 16"  2815.3 fps

I was wondering if there is some characteristic that makes them slower.  Like __________ said.

Some other articles with chrono tests that showed Aero rifles to have fairly slow muzzle velocities.

https://www.shootingtimes.com/editorial/aero-precision-ar-build/376725
Among the chrono tested ammo was Winchester Varmint-X 40gr at 3120 fps with a 16.1" inch barrel.
That ammo is advertised at 3600 fps.  (I would guess with a 20" inch or possibly 24" inch barrel.  A 16" inch barrel should not drop muzzle velocity by that much.)

These guys said they had disappointing velocities with a few ammo types:
https://theolddeerhunters.com/aero-precision-223-review/
Among the chrono tested ammo was Fiocche 223 40 gn V-max at 3250 fps with an 18" inch barrel.
Which has an advertised muzzle velocity of 3650 fps.

Both of those reductions in velocities seem fairly significant.

Generous chambers and looser bores tend to shoot slower. Tighter chambers and bores tend to shoot faster.

Tighter chambers chambers and bores tend to show pressure signs earlier when hand loading be pickier for accuracy when looking for a powder/charge/node IME.

On the Solus, .308, 20" M24 using Varget, Quickload states 2504 with 42, actual 2433 avg, 42.5, 2533/2463 actual, 43, 2562/2492 actual, 43.5, 2591/2520 actual and 44, 2620, 2566 actual. Of course variable with reloading there but the barrel is accurate, need to confirm with a ladder at 300 on 42.8-43.6 in .2 increments. SD in the range is 7.8 or less

My 14.5 Criterion chronos at 2700 with AAC 77 OTM. That's a hair faster than my 18 inch WOA which is at 2690 and my 16 inch LaRue that is at 2650.

If the BCM has a .223 Wylde chamber and the AERO Precision has a 5.56mm NATO chamber, that would make a difference.

If you mean it's kaboom territory - It's a hard hitter for sure but was worked up carefully. I've shot a lot of it, zero issues.

Right on. IIRC the highest I tested to was 23.9 with no issues but best accuracy was 23.5. That load is an absolute hammer and has killed a couple deer and a bunch of yotes.

I have an 11.3 BA barrel(the manufacture for Aero). Only chrono'd it once with a friend of a friends chrono but it was pretty slow. 2,515 FPS with 55gr Xtac and Wolf Gold. IIRC the same ammo was around 2,800fps through a 12.5 LMT.

From everything I've read the velocity should've been around 2,700fps. I still need to buy my own chrono to do some more tests on the BA barrel, but accuracy sucks with it too so it's low priority. Probably going to run my last 4 cases of steel case through it and trash it.

My one and only Aero barrel runs a bit slower than Colt, BCM and PSA barrels.
Aero 16"
77gr Razorcore 2577 avg
AAC 70 TSX 2641
AAC 62gr Sabre 2785
CBC MEN 55gr 3150

Colt 16" (BCM & PSA barrels run similar velocities)
77gr Razorcore 2682
AAC 70gr TSX 2710
AAC 2863
CBC MEN 3185
