Just wondering how you guys organize and label your small AR15 parts. I just recently started buying small parts. Better late than never. Lol.

I use similar segregated plastic bins/boxes (the kind most people use to store lures in).

Never been one to label them…

Yeah, the labels might be a little over the top, but I like know where the parts came from. The parts that aren’t labeled are from Forward Controls.

I do the same thing with the parts containers except I put the parts in small zip lock bags so I it gets dropped or knocked over when it's open I don't literally losse my shit with the parts going everywhere.  I'll also use old pill bottles to put together a complete LPK or FCG.

I might have gotten carried away

I have tried all kinds of containers over the years. Some have worked better than others but nothing ever seems like what I am searching for. This time I’m giving these a try. They have quite a few options and have racks with slide outs for them too. I bought a new label maker at the beginning of the the year and it’s been getting a workout. So much you can do with it vs the old Ptouch but the Ptouch is still probably better for file folders.

I like how the bottoms are rounded out on that Durham tray so you can get the springs and things out easier!

I do something similar for my RR full auto HK94/MP5, but MP5's have a habit of eating certain spare parts, namely extractor springs and if you have first generation bolt, roller retainers.

You are an inspiration! Word/ descriptions instead of images will work for my project, thanks!

Between the LaRue box and other items in little boxes, it's time to bring springs and extra parts together.

It’s a work in progress in my spare time. I have so many little organizer boxes and crack sacks full of parts and pieces I couldn’t find what I was looking for half the time or I would buy stuff I already had. I'm slowly getting everything rounded up and deciding on what order/grouping to put them in. After I accomplish that I’ll label them. The pictures weren’t necessary but I had the ability so I thought why not. I figured the labels on the lids would make for fast identification since they are kept somewhat above eye level. Some of them I would have to pull down completely to be able to see down in the compartments. If anyone buys these containers don’t put anything such as detents in the top row of dividers. The tray is notched for the hinge and in the event it got turned upside down or something they can get in the void and end up underneath the tray. So far I have about 12 cases worth of little stuff that I know of.

Big plastic tub for everything. Small parts stay in the little ziplock bags put inside bigger ziplock bags.
Everything fits in there, stocks, buffer tubes, Grips, and receivers. I accumulate enough parts and forget what  have.
Then another AR will be built after I dig through things.

I do the same as what most are showing here, but I also have the parts in little ziploc type bags I get from Brownells in different sizes and keep all parts coated in Break-Free Collector oil.

I also write on the bags with a sharpie marker the brand of the part, but not usually what it is since I know at a quick glance.

That's what I've done over the years. Between moves and deployments I ended up with multiple little Rubber Made tubs of stuff all over the place.

You sir are the king!

You must be a Tier 1, Navy SEAL, Ranger qualified, Para-rescue, Delta Force Operator, since they're the only ones who use that type of label maker!

To answer the OP's question, I use the Husky (I think) boxes from Home Depot, they're similar to the boxes posted.

Y'all is crazy.  Any spare parts I have are still in the PSA lower parts kits boxes they shipped in.  Either that, or built into a complete lower or complete gun.

I dont understand the need to have a tackle box full of sprigs and detents.

How often are you guys breaking takedown pins and detents?
Its so often you need a tacklebox full of them?

I understand having spare parts.  I dont see any point breaking up a ton of complete lower parts kits.  Its not like those parts wear out on a regular basis.  You can realistically have 1 or 2 that you pilfer parts from.

This seems more like OCD than based out of necessity.

Theres more in parts than pins and detents and you can purchase individual parts without breaking down and separating lpks.
Like I said before, some people like to be prepared or they have collected a bunch after years of owning and buying stuff.
If I need an extra spring and I didn't have it on hand, it's a 10 cent part and shipping on that 10 cent part is $8-$15, so order 20 of them to make it sting less. Same with other little parts.
Do that with individual pieces and firearm parts over the course of 10/20/30 years and you end up with a lot of stuff.
If you upgrade parts, you end up with extra replacement parts.
I'm not sure why that's hard to grasp.

If people have a tackle box full of parts why do you care?
This is a technical thread in a technical sub forum discussing storage of said parts, not a GD thread questioning thread participant's on why they have so many parts and then suggesting that they have OCD because they do.

Thank you!

I have the big P-Touch label maker below.  It is a great label maker and they have all kinds of different types of label material for it but the biggest height labels are 1in.  I was looking for something that had slightly bigger labels like the Phomemo M200 series.  Looks like you can get their M221 for $67 which seems like a decent deal.

I’ve got a similar version of the Ptouch. I still like it better for file folders and little things like that but was wanting something to do barcodes. I was looking at Dymo printers and found the Phomemo. I got it for a similar price so I figured it was worth a shot. There are a few things I don’t like about it but for the price I can deal with it. I do wish it was large enough to print shipping labels though.

To keep with the organization theme in the thread I also bought one of those Harbor Freight knock off cases to store it in. I got some old pill bottles to keep the different size labels and charging cord in. I just need make the labels for the bottles now.

I bought one of these plano 2 tray tackle boxes and painted it OD green to make it tacticool lol but its worked out very well as my AR-15 kit

Top holds my AR specific tools...

Upper tray holds upper receiver small parts...

Lower tray, lower parts...

and parts that are too big to fit into it (CH's, stocks, grips, acton springs, forends and even receivers) go into the parts locker in these 12x12 plastic bins...

The only thing I haven't come up with a decent solution for is spare barrels so I tend to either sell them or build the into a complete uppers lol

PS... and I also have a field kit...
