Hateca,

What flip-up sights are those; where, and how much?

Looks like they will work on a full-length top-rail / same plane mount like on my 2003 SEBR, plus co-witness with the optics.
Thanks.

Thanks.  I'll save up for a set!  ( unless I decide to change the forend, etc. )...
My bbl. is the newer profile and looks kinda skimpy under the big TUBE and full-length top-rail, so I'll either be going for a fuller profile bbl., or going to the standard type forend/front sight with a flip-up rear, OR ---
I thought the 2003 SEBR was going to have a 20"  'T' bbl.
Getting the bbl. AND sights would be really expensive!
You guys know what I mean...it starts to get outta hand at times.

Uncle??? Huh? uncle sam? (sorry I am slow!!)

Its mine, the doctor is on a larue SPR mount with doctor/jpoint mount.

You've obviously got great taste in gear.

ETA: can you switch that red dot mount to the other side too?

Here's my contribution.........just picked this up yesterday!

A Portuguese Contract AR-10 on a Specialty Arms lower. I've wanted one of these for a long time, and just waited till a good one showed up. Bought it from the previous owner of 25 years........Only problem is a small crack in the butt.......working on a fix for that!

The quality of machine work on the lower is outstanding.......

Congratulations, Villafuego!
I am happy to see you got one!

I will probably be looking for a Sudanese or Guatemalan version for the next 15 years.

Funny how the cheap SA works, it is very good target ammo too. I have read some where a long range shooter in some comp's the guy used some SA ammo and did very well. I bet that gun would do real well with some LC match ammo.

Amazingly, IMHO & from expereince, Jet Suppressors (Mike Brown) makes the BEST Cans in the world!  The Can he made for this rifle is 12" long and actually recesses 4.5" over the Vortex, leaving approx 8" of can extened out the 18" barrel.

The can weighs approx. one (1) pound (titanium)!  The rifle overall weighs approx. 13 lbs.  Can you beleive that I have not shot this rifle yet with the can attached.  My groups (.375 consistant) will get tighter when I receive the can next week....range report will follow.

Mine as of today: Hembrug lower, Hembrug upper, serial number A000# (let's just say that # is <5), almost 100% perfect state:

I am a VERY happy boy :D

I also have the original slip, numbered to the rifle.

Quick question - does anyone know where I can get a spare hold-open catch for an original AR10?  I want to file off the automatic hold-open lug so that it won't crack my receiver if I shoot the mag dry, but don't want to do this with the original catch.

Very cool......looks like a "Sudaneese" pattern AR-10 with later NATO (or Portuguese ) furniture. Is the "safe" position horizontal?..... there is definitely an auto-sear there!  Mind if I ask where it is serial numbered?........only the later guns had the serial on the upper by the NSN #. It looks like the front of the mag well, where the AI markings, and the normal Serial # markings are, has been milled away.......no matter what model, always a serious "what is that" attention getter at the range!

Looks to be a transitional model.  It may have an auto sear hole, don't think those were a big deal in the early 1960's in Europe.  I don't see a sear plus the odd mag angle tells me that it is a factory AR-10 sporter, as in semiautomatic.

To try to answer you all at once:

The serial number is located on the lower, it was originally built as a full auto and downconverted.  The magazine angle isn't funny, it just looks so due to the cutaway magazine Housing.  It has the heavier, Portuguese barrel with the bayonet lug on top.  The "safe" position is indeed horizontal.

If anyone is interested, the downconversion consists of removing the tumbler, machining the hook from the back of the hammer, and installing a "block" to prevent the fire selector from rotating into the auto position.

I paid €1810 for the rifle, and over here, bashed up ones go for between €750 and €1100.

I have never seen a rifle with that upper and that lower together.

Some more information about my rifle:

The upper receiver is completely unmarked.  The serial number is on the lower receiver, left-hand side of the magazine Housing, top right corner.

It came out of a collection of "specials", which included a heavy barrelled marine version of which only four were made, if I remember correctly.  These rifles which were produced at AI in Holland and remained in Holland, in a collection.  Another interesting piece that came out of the same collection is another Portuguese variant, with a wooden hand guard and the gas regulator in line with the gas tube, and no bayonet lug.

I have now shot it, and it shoots very well.  I did have one problem, in that the détente for the main spring left its hole and caused the main spring come out.  This has now been fixed.
