Thank you for the replies. I've built a few ARs but none that I had to worry about barrel length on. I'll give the recommendations a try.

the problem with John Thomas P/Ws is something that "you don't see", his work is so PERFECT you can't even see it. I brought this up with him once and he said no problem, he can make it less perfect, just tell him in advance.
