Were Thermolds pre-ban?
Is there still any value to them?
I just found a box, and I'm deciding what to do with them.

The Thermolds made before the ban were.

Then they started making them again .

Some were, others not.

IIRC, the mold #s determined.

I really enjoyed mine. I got a deal on them back when.

I have a few orange ones I'm not letting go of, but the black ones I don't have a firm opinion on.

THIS archived post makes me think mine are preban. Well, that and the fact that they've been sealed in a Tequiza 12-pack carton long enough for the glue on the seams to start giving way. If I can find a way to get one out without destroying the container, I'll check. I'm almost 100% sure there were no LE stamps on them, as they were purchased new before the AWB sunset.

The H-21/H-22 were what I recalled,  just couldn't clear the fog.

Still valuable in Massachusetts.

I was gifted a pre-ban mag. I have used it as a range mag and in hasn't had any problems.

Massachusetts could really use those pre-bans.  They're staring down the barrel of a comprehensive "assault weapon" ban.

I remember quite a few years ago Numerich was selling the Thermold 20rd kits where you needed to assemble the mags for $2. I bought a hundred or so of them. Had a few that wouldn't drop free but they all functioned while shooting.

20 round Thermolds?
Any chance you still have a few extra somewhere?

Most of these were "preban".
I had some problems with some (30 rounders), where the bolt would stop on the feed lips, and it would take a lot of drops of the bolt to wear enough plastic off the feed lips for the bolt to go forward unobstructed.

We were issued some Thermolds (black 30 rd) to try out back in 1/10th SFGA in West Germany 88-90'.  I stopped using mine after spine started cracking later in the early 90s.  Still kept the cracked ones (now marked) for failure drills.  So, some were definitely made prior to 94'

They're still in business? I thought they went by the wayside like Orlites.

I have a few that say Mastermold (I think) on them. It also says something like for law enforcement use only. They were made during the AWB. I bought them after the ban.

@Combat_Diver

Perhaps the Mastermold ones made later are of better quality.

21H and 22H are definately preban, and IME very reliable.

Maybe, don't know.  Got enough PMags and USGI for life.

I believe what people are referring to the ones sold by Thermold, but they were all marked "Master Molder".  I have several.

Never use them.  The only AR mags that I ever owned that caused malfs.  Weak springs....

@GySgt_D

Look for a good deal on springs, then keep the mags for range use.

Yep - I have a mix of H21 and H22 in new condition. A patent number, no ban or restricted wording to be seen.

Off to see what trade value these might have...
edit
well, that didn't help
Gunbroker - I see ones that sold at $50 and $35 per, and ones that didn't sell at all at $20. Of course, this is the same place I saw a Sig FCU sell for over $900 once, so I can't expect logic.

They're only valuable in Massachusetts.  I sold a pre-ban AR into the northern Commonwealth & restricted every other location.  The gunshow that received it was very interested in any other preban stuff I might come across, IM me if you want their number.
