I’m not sure that a 900 dollar bbl is going to be the voodoo you want.  Never owned one though.

There is nothing "lightweight" in an AR10 build.  You need to be looking at carbon fiber barrels which most willmor than fill your accuracy needs.  I changed out my Grendel build to a Proof Research and it made a significant difference.

I just got a fluted Craddock RTR barrel (but in 6.5CM).  It being a Rock Creek blank worked over by CP, I’m pretty positive it’ll be a shooter.  I think it’ll be a great middle ground option that’s a few hundred bucks cheaper than a Proof or Bartlein.

If this will be a bench only gun, I’d probably lean towards a long barrel.  If it’s going to be carried or if you intend to shoot it suppressed, I’d look into something shorter.  Realistically, 500yds is a chip shot for .308.  You say you’d like the capability to shoot farther, but how much farther?  Do you have access to a range where longer is an option?

I am currently in the middle of an almost identical build but different receiver brand and handguard.  I did the Criterion 20” hybrid rifle nitride barrel.  Seeing how I can make hits easily out to 800 with my 16” AR10 and SCAR 17 I am not worried the 20” will hold me back at all.  I wanted the 20” because I wanted the look of the 20” and rifle length gas tube.  I should complete it by the end of this month I still need to get my trigger and decide if I want a specific piece of glass for this rifle or use my Viper 5-25x.

Probably go 20 inch for accuracy but 18 inch if distance is 500 yards or less. My Ruger SFAR with a 20 inch barrel and 5R rifling shoots cloverleafs @100 yards. Haven’t been able to get out long distance yet but hope to this summer. Make sure you allocate money for real good glass. Good luck.

What ammo are you using?  I’ve not gotten cloverleaf’s with my 20” Sfar.

I think Faxon match barrels are a really good barrel for the money. Running a 6.5cm match barrel in 20” that shoots pretty damn good, sub moa. It’s just built a 308 upper with another Faxon big gunner profile in 18”. Seemed like a decent compromise of weight, accuracy and velocity for what I plan to do with it.

I believe the M110 accuracy requirement was 1.3moa or less, I think 1.5-2 moa would realistically be plenty adequate for 500 yards or less. I think any of the Faxon match barrels would be somewhat close to M110 requirements

Faxon 20” match

500 yards is a chip shot with a 16" 308.
The problem is that you lose stiffness with longer barrels unless you increase diameter, both of which add weight.
Fluting can help, a little, but still sacrifices stiffness.
My 16s are approximately SOCOM profile and work well.
My 22 and 24 are HBAR profile and long and heavy, especially with a can.
Maybe, build two: A 22 or 24 inch Creedmoor on your M5 set, and a 308 SFAR for the light weight.
Different clubs for different shots.

Presuming you are going to go with .308, a 12.5" will get you to the range you want. I like 18" since I shoot much further than that. Keeps the blast further away and gets me some more ass behind the bullet, yet is still easy to carry through the mountains.

I have two Faxon match barrels, in 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Win. Both give .55" ten round groups at 100m.
