Hey everyone, I'm new to archery.  I just bought a used Bear Whitetail Hunter.  It is a teardrop bow.  When I took it to the archery store the guy recommended against using it due to the chance that teardrops can potentially explode off the bow.  He also said it is very expensive to replace teardrops if you can even find someone.  Is this something I should be concerned about or can I put a new string on it and give it a try?
He did recommend hanging it on the wall as it is a very cool piece of archery history.
Thanks for your advice!

Yeah, I owned a Whitetail II in the ‘80’s.  It is a piece of archery history.

Dacron string only, no fast flight strings or any of the modern types used today and there are a few people who still make the cables for these bows.  Inspect closely where the tear drop and cable meet, if you see any sign of rust do not pull that string back.
