There are good Osage Orange bows from a couple hundred dollars to well over a thousand. I spent $75 plus shipping for the stave to make my bow. Snake skin looks good but doesn't add anything else to the bow. Rawhide and other coverings can add strength to a bow but then it is not legal for selfbow competition. A nice Osage Orange (bodark) bow is nice to shoot and a work of art.
The 28# 1969 Bud Hitt bow had a very slight twist in the lower limb that I had to work on. It still shot good when I got it but I now have it straight again. A common problem with older bows, especially lighter draw ones. My granddaughter shot it a few times now and loves it.
