Local store is going out of business and is getting rid of all inventory.
One item is a new in box YHM Phantom M2 556. They want $200 for it. Is it worth getting? It is definitely a hefty boy, must be about 2 lbs. But it looks incredibly durable. I can't seem to find much on these at all, other than they are about 15 years old. What should I do? Hard to say no to a $200 supressor... |

Quic search shows 18.5oz. That's not terrible at all. Especially when you consider companies like TBAC were selling 1.5lb suppressors only a couple years ago. If you have the need for a $400 (plus any fees) suppressor, go for it.

I do need a 556 can.
Has anyone shot one? Any idea how they hold up to modern supressora? |

How does the Form 4/stamp work if you buy it and then they go out of biz before it gets approved?

I'd have it transfered to my local store. He will send it for free to get rid of it.

I have a Phantom 30 from 2010 or so, its an absolute beast. Heavy, yes, but I beat the living shit out of it. 300win mag no problem. A 5.56 M2 is the same thing, but obviously in 5.56 cal, a bit lighter, and improved external features. The M2 has ridges and ribs (for her pleasure) whereas the OG phantoms are just straight toobs. 200 beans, Yeah I'd buy that and just abuse the fk out of it.

They work well. Higher backpressure obviously, the baffles aren’t clipped either, I think they were made before that was a thing.
Even with it being ancient and heavy it’s a no brainer buy it now. |

What store OP (after you buy what you want)?

I have a heavy old 7.62 can that I'm sometimes frustrated by, its just tough to justify dragging it around sometimes with having lighter stuff on hand. But its definitely found a home on a 300blk SBR bolt gun, and its honestly perfect there. So initially, I was in the forget it camp, but then I looked up how much my two $200 5.56 cans weigh, 32oz. Those are both on SBR ARs, and I don't mind the weight much at all. There is something nice about a cheap can that can take a beating. For that YHM, I'd seriously consider building a heavy barrel bolt action 223 or a 22arc in kind of a PRS style to go with that can. It would be perfect for an application like that adding some weight out front, there would be no recoil so easy to spot your own hits. I guess I'm just saying its tough to go wrong with a $200 can from my experience.

I have two of them and they are good cans for the money.
Better can for the money at $200 smackers. One sits permanently on my Mk18 Noveske clone whatever and the other sits on my AUG. Both perform good for the money. |

Definitely worth $200. I also have two and if I can the video I will post it. They sound very good.

I have one that has been on my first SBR for as long as I can remember. Might have been my first .556 can. It has been through a lot of abuse but still works fine.
Lots of gas in the face though. |

When a much more modern YHM Turbo T3 or K-RB can be had for a few hundred more, I’m not sure why you’d bother unless you just want a suppressor so you can post “cool kid” pics on Instagram.
I’ve got quite a few cans. Heavy weight and high backpressure are huge detractors if you actually use your stuff. About the only way I’d remotely consider it is if I wanted a can for a primarily bench shot bolt gun chambered in a cartridge compatible with a 5.56 can. Just my $0.02 |

I have a phantom 556 QD which is older than the M2, maybe, I don't know. It was purchased in 2012.
It's still what I shoot the most. It is heavy but has several 1000 rounds through it. Id buy another at that price but I am also fully invested in their legacy mounting system. It does have a lot of back pressure. |
