I’m looking to Form 1 my TAC-14 to add a folding brace, which will cut down OAL to about 24”. Will probably be a SBA3 just for more flexibility, but had another question regarding the firearm.

From what I read, after I get the tax stamp, it will only be an AOW in that configuration. So, tossing the OEM grip on, and making it 26+” again... it goes back to “firearm” status, right?

Asking because I used to live in NJ, and still have family down there. The TAC-14 is legal in NJ, but SBS are not. If I SBS it, I’d have to install an 18” barrel to get it “legal” for there... if I ever decided to bring it down (since it had a stock, and thus now a shotgun). If an AOW goes back to “firearm,” then I would be good to go with tossing the original grip... if I decide to head back with it.
