No in the Garand for heaver than 150gr loads, , since heaver bullet uses slower burning powder that 4895, and will have both the bolt unlocking too soon, and with the added pressures at the port, chance bending the rod as well.
So as pointed out, will need to reduce the amount of pressure that the gas system sees from the heaver than 150gr bullet loaded with 4895, and can be done by either adjustable gas plug, or gas plug that has a range of drilled ports that you can install into the mod'd plug isntead.
I have used both types, and depending if your just going to go with different fixed ammo's, then McCann fixed port sizes does work better.
Hence not hard to make your own sized from bolts if your trying to dial in a port size if between plug sized, and a lot faster to swap the port vent bolts, if moving from say standard DCM yards where you are running 168gr, then down to lighter bullet when shooting reduced yardage courses the next shoot. plus, don't have to wait for the loctite to set, before you go to shoot the rig.
If going to play load of the week game instead, the schuster adjustable may be better instead, but back to playing the count the percentage of bolt venting cranks if trying to return to an old setting settings ( remove bolt, new loctite applied, then try to adjust as before, and allow the loctite to set up, before you shoot the rifle). Hence more of a DCM only going to run one 168gr load, so get it adjusted for that ammo, and forget about it in the end.
