I used the standard Garand bolt

One of my favorite gun shops has three used 6.5x55mm bolt actions for sale. I think I should get them in case they should fall into the hands of some greedy hoarder.

BSA in 6.5x55mm $549 ($405 USD)

Parker Hale in 6.5x55mm $549 ($405 USD)

Husqvarna 1640 in 6.5x55mm  $595 ($470 USD)

So .007" on the bolt face doesn't matter?

No.  And Remington and Winchester 6.5x55 brass usually have 0..473" case heads

Not really.
There is no thrust on the edge of the rim.   If the extractor has a good grip, it is GTG.

I have a .220 Swift built on an FN Mauser single shot action.   It has a .534" magnum bolt face, but the correct extractor.
It works just fine since it is a SINGLE SHOT.

A really fast one.  I got to see the battleground where its parent case proved itself.

Thanks to everyone posting info and keeping the thread going. It's a great cartridge and was ahead of its time. It may be a while before my 1894 gets a buddy. No Christmas bonus this year - mainly due to the woke dead weight at the office.

I have a Steyr pro hunter in stainless and synthetic.  It did not come threaded so I sent it off to ECCO  and he threaded it for me.   I am running an EA Lux on it and it works well.  I would buy a Tikka to beside it if I could justify another hunting rifle.  Although I bet Howa would be a great one as well.

I’m guessing getting those into the United States would be expensive.

Any 01 FFL can do an "occasional" import on a Form 6.  Cannot be for resale.
I have done two in twelve years.
Honestly it is a PITA, but if you have a friendly FFL who wants to learn what a PITA it is.......

I Run Guns fees actually appear reasonable.

“Has anyone ever tried pulling down the wooden bullet/training ammo that used to be available?  I know some people have pulled the bullets, neck sized, and reloaded with their own powder/bullets.”

I have used this sorce of brass
Pulled, dumped and reloaded
They are a mix of years in the head stamps
Works fine

CZ really dropped the ball when they ditched all their classic calibers in the 550. New 600 is meh.

peak 6.5 modern, affordable Swede

sadly discontinued in 2017.
mine is consistently a 1.2" rifle

Nice 94.

Last time I looked it up, ceremonial troops in Sweden are still marching with those rifles.

Thanks.  I really like having it just to admire and appreciate it.  Plus, it belonged to a friend of mine.  I need to take it out for a spin.  He would be disappointed with me if I didn't.

I did not know that, but am not surprised.

Yup

Forgot to mention the single set trigger.

I bought it 7-8 years ago at a pawn shop for $300. It looked new. Weird calibers in small town Alabama don't fetch much since  "Walmart ain't got no ammo for that".

I bought 5,000 rounds of the wooden tipped training bullets for that very purpose.  I pull the bullets, dump the powder, then run the empty cases through my vibratory tumbler with NuFinish car polish.  The brass comes out clean and shiny.

Take a look at this and drool. The rifle is a Husqvarna 1640 from 1962. It has a 22" barrel and weighs about 6 and a quarter pounds.  It points like a fine shotgun.

It is a 6.5x55 and it has a perfect bore. It also has a hinged floorplate.

Nice rifle.   Looks to be the later version with aluminum bottom metal.
Pulled a similar .308 apart a few days ago.
