We'll see if it changes after the next range session. Most of 300 BLK that has been through it was either S&B 200 gr subs or Australian Outback 110gr. Attached File Attached File |

That’s about 0.4 grains of residue/carbon per shot, or about 1% of a .308 powder load by mass. Closer to 2% for a supersonic .300BO. Seems a little high but not inconceivable. Lots of surface area and sharp corners in the can to collect build-up.

Attached File Attached File Got the @. This is a KAC NT4 with approximately: -2000-3000 rounds down the pipe mounted on a regular a2 style NT4 mount on two 14.5" guns -500-1000 rounds on a BE Meyers Prototype NT4 mount on a 10.3" -500-1000 through a MAMS NT4, Triple Tap, and Griffin Armaments NT4 comp on three 11.5"guns -75-100 22lr rounds through it mounted to a 20" barrel. But I don't like/reccomend using it on .22s. |

Awesome thread, keep it up!
Does anyone have any particular pics or experience with 17-4 SS baffles (radials ideally) on short (10.5"-11.5") 5.56/.223 guns running "carbine course" firing schedules? What does wear look like? Flash hiders or muzzle breaks, please just specify! |
|
|
17-4 wears a lot like 718 inconel. It’s only prone to wear over ~1150f. All suppressor metal is getting soft between 1100 and 1300f. 6AL4V titanium begins to erode badly over 900, and melts and starts on fire somewhere in the 1150-1350f range. 625 inconel isn’t substantially hard at room temperature so it is moderately subject to wear even at lower temperatures. 300series stainless is softer yet and it really doesn’t belong in any hard use suppressor baffle.
We have used all of the above materials in production or R&D products at one time or another and I’ve seen them all run hard to see how they compare. Geometry and baffle proximity to the muzzle also plays a role in durability or lack thereof. There is little or no practical reason to run rifles that hard. Getting to 1150 is like 5 30 round mags of full auto fire. At 1150f 556 cans are dropping ~400f of heat per minute, or enough to shoot about 20 rounds a minute sustained. |

I have a Socom RC2 556 on the way. Really interested to see how these hold up to 20000+ rounds on a 10.3” gun.

YHM Phantom QD 556. I've owned this new since Mar 09. This can has had a mix of 223/5.56/22lr, through 20", 16", 14.5", 10.5" and has only been run FA a handful of times. I honestly cannot fathom how many rounds I've put through this, but on a conservative side I would say 75k+ easily as I am at the range at least once a week, some times 2 or 3 and I always have the can on one of my AR's I take.

That doesn’t look like as much erosion as metal deposition.
I bet if you cleaned it off it would show up better. |

Pic request for direct thread YHM Turbo or Turbo K, please.
Actually, any more pictures of direct thread cans? This Innovative Arms DT looks great compared to a lot of the FH cans with similar mileage in this thread. Turbo K with somewhere around 2k rounds all on a 10.5" with a modified muzzle device. I cut the brake off to save a bit of weight and when I do fire the gun unsuppressed its not as obnoxious. Also using a kurz adapter. This will give a "direct thread" approximation.
The blast baffle is fine, and so is the first main baffle. The second baffle has all the erosion, which is odd. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |
