I prefer the classic wide handguard, so I dislike the idea of having to use anything else just to have a weapon mounted light on my SP5. I came across this set-up that mounts the light on the front sight tower and has a cut-out in the side of the handguard to mount a Surefire pressure pad. The bonus for this would be the ability to keep the classic lines of the MP5 along with a light that's mounted far enough away from the barrel for suppressor use. Plus it counts as a USA-made part for 922(R). I may give this a try. Does anyone have this? I've never seen pics posted with it.
Gibbous Outfitters MP5 Handguard There's also an MP5K version: |

I have used the light mounts from Gibbous as well as the top tape switch mount, but not the handguards. I had some concerns about the longevity of the light mounts at first, but they've held up great. I first put a Surefire micro pro on my K, along with a top tape switch. I swapped the light to a standard 1 cell scout light for more light. So far I really.like it. I would love to eventually get the K grip with the switch cuttout.
Eta. The mounts are made for the thicker Modlite bodies. To use a smaller surefire, I just put some small zip ties around the light body to make up some space. |

The light mount works great for me. I also have their buttpad for the b&t collapsible and it's super nice.
Some of the stuff is really expensive, but it's niche stuff that some guys really like, and there are a lot of guys who appreciate options. I think most people in the HK world wouldn't think the prices are so absurd they would be attacking the crap out of it the surefire handguard/light 328lmf has a MSRP of 650... I'm not affiliated with gibbous, so don't start on me..my limited experience the dude seams like a good dude, and there are a few things he makes that are pretty cool. |

View Quote I think this might be the way I go. I like that they have left hand options and that it will work with my quick detach front sling mount. Plus it doesn't get in the way of using a suppressor. Lightweight and keeping the traditional MP5 looks is a big plus as well. Lastly by mounting under the barrel it doesn't increase the thickness of the gun. It's basically something Surefire should've done years ago. https://gibbousoutfitters.com/products/mp5-light-bearing-handguard |

For those that have Gibbous anything for the MP5, how is the 3D print material holding up? Any flex, crushing, cracking? Any concern when applying torque to the locking hardware? I like some of his designs, but the 3D printed material is drawing some concerns.

I really don't want a tri-rail on my AP5.
What I like about the Gibbous offerings is I can keep the traditional old school looks of the hand guard. This one for $199 is still tempting to me. But I would need to buy a $300+ light that fits it. So really this is a $500 to $600 hand guard and not really that great of deal. Attached File https://gibbousoutfitters.com/products/mp5-light-bearing-handguard B&T was previously mentioned. Looking at HKParts they have couple options I find interesting. A Surefire copy for $649. This makes the Gibbous Light Bearing hand guard @ $199 ($500+ with light) more palatable. https://hkparts.net/all-parts/b-t-mp5-handguard-with-led-weapon-light-tl99/ A tri-rail hand guard for $234.95. I really don't want a tri-rail but at least this one looks somewhat traditional. https://hkparts.net/all-parts/b-t-mp5-tl-99a1-3-rail-handguard/ A single rail hand guard for $199. I'm kind of digging this one. I have and Inforce light that would work on this. It doesn't look like it would interfere with my suppressor. https://hkparts.net/all-parts/b-t-mp5-single-rail-handguard/ Lastly a Surefire 328LMF for $599.95 that looks to work with a suppressor as long as you don't use the tri-lug. https://hkparts.net/all-parts/surefire-328lmf-lighted-forearm/ |

I'm now in the market for a light mount on an MP5K clone and the Gibbous seems decent. How does the pressure switch attach? Just stick it to the upper gas tube housing? Wouldn't heat be an issue?
Also it only fits Modlight bodies unless some spacer is used? Anything else out there now? |

So Modlite and a couple others with the simpler geometry will fit, or the SF Pro series bodies with the swivel mount will work with the swivel adaptor. This is the SF geometry difference, here an Arisaka body but Modlight and others use this similar streamlined profile: |
