Got a stainless grn mtn barrel for the old 10/22 on a whim. I think it should group better. Think ditching the barrel band will make much difference?

You'll have to shoot it with and without to know for sure.

My logic says better without but I have heard the opposite being true

I have a Green Mntn barrel on my 10/22.  It's a bull barrel, so I replaced the stock with Boyds Tacticool model.

Regarding a standard profile barrel, I would ditch the barrel band.  One less thing to put stress on the barrel or affect it's harmonics.
