I started down the path of a Mk17 Mod 0 clone but have been somewhat turned off by the clone correct rifle scopes due to availability and cost. I would like to take advantage of this rifle's capabilities to handle mid-range distances and closer; I'm just not sure if I should look beyond a 1-6 LPVO and consider a 2.5/3-10 or similar.
I've handled and subsequently passed on the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8, Viper PST II 1-6, and the Trijicon Credo HX .308 BTC. Other 1-6s I've considered are the Vortex Razor Gen II E (ugly color and heavy), Leupold Patrol 6HD CDS-ZL2 (lightweight and made in USA, but most-expensive of the bunch), and the discontinued Leupold Mark 6 M6C1 FFP 7.62 CMR-W ($1399; 34mm tube vs. 30mm for all the others, but this reticle is really attractive though I'm not sure I want MRAD). Any others I should consider? Any other guidance? Thanks in advance!

Not a lot of scopes are going to live on that thing.
I’d go NF 2.5-10, however if you feel thats a no go what about a NF NX8 1-8 ? |

You're talking about the NXS - 2.5x10x42mm? Hmmm...I'm definitely open to that; a bit more than I was wanting to spend, but I've got some hefty credits at Optics Planet

what is your budget?
scopes can survive , as long as a good mount is utilized & tune the gas. i stay away from cantilevered mounts ;) i.e.: ADM delta-H or delta, Spuhr, LaRue, Borbo SCAR mount are the general preferred ones i prefer 1-8 or 1-10 on my SCAR Primary Arms (PA) Compact PLxC 1-8 Primary Arms SLx 1-6x24mm SFP Rifle Scope Gen IV eotech vudu vcog 1-8 NF is always great, but pricey but also be on safe side, look for manufacturer w/ a good warranty... just in case ;) PA has had good luck w/ SCAR 17s & their scopes NF warranty is great check on others  New Quality Budget Optics from Primary Arms youtube.com/watch?v=2EKPvqhF0ZY start around 2:00 i'm currently rolling the dice on a Swampfox 1-10 in Larue LT111 no issues yet |

I can make $1,700 work, but that's the top of my budget. I am planning on running the clone correct Nightforce A110 scope rings (already have them), not a mount. Goal would be a 90% correct clone with the scope not looking too far off from what the Mk17 Mod 0 was issued with. Staying with Leupold or Nightforce would be ideal if I go with a 2.5, 3, or 3.5-10 power scope. Sorry for the dorky parameters

I put a VCOG 1-8x on mine and love it. Large eyebox. Good at 1x and 8x. Replaced the Kahles 1-6x and is just as good clarity wise.
I put a S&B short dot dual 1-8x on my AR-10 (Daniel Defense) and love it even more. Both scopes should handle the SCAR quite well with the correct mount. Just figure out what you want to use the SCAR for. Battle rifle? LPVO 1-6 or 1-8x. DMR? 2-10/2-12/3-18 etc. Just make sure you get a sturdy well made mount. I use ADM Delta mount for a Kahles 1-6 on my SCAR 17 since 2014 until recent with zero issues. |

The Nightforce NXS scopes are gtg with a good mount. |

Periodically you can find the NF 2.5 -10 x 32 and also 2.5 -10x24
They are discontinued, however NF sometimes does a limited run periodically or PP. The eyebox would be a bit tighter tho. Also take a look at euro optic, hit the demo/blemish models link. |

I think you first need to decide if you want a LPVO or a traditional scope.
If it’s the former. I think the Mk6 would be a good choice and that’s a pretty good deal but it’s an old design and won’t work with the rings you already have(you could always sell the 30mm you have and get 34s). The Leupold isn’t “clone correct” either although I’m sure some dudes ran that setup at some point. Another option would be the NF nx8 1-8x, arguably better than the Mk6, much newer design, works with the rings you have and can be had for the same money if you buy used or catch a good deal, less if you get one with the old reticle. If it’s the later. I’d take my time and find a deal on a NXS 2.5-10x, a x24 will blow your budget unless you catch a great deal but you can still find a X32 for $12-1300 pretty regularly. Just may take a while if you are picky about what reticle and turret setup you want. Great scopes even by today’s standards and you’d be able to sleep at night knowing you are clone correct. but not really because you’d have a retail scope not a army or navy spec one, so you’ll have to spend 2x the time and money finding one of those |

Somebody needs to buy up those Mk6 for $1399. I keep going back to euro optic kind of hopping they are sold out but getting closer and closer to buying one for my 17.

I did end up buying one. Also found the matching Leupold Mark 6 IMS mount for $122.81 shipped at Midway USA. I think it was the last one. Both will be here by Friday.

The Leupold Mark 6 mount was kind of meh, so I jumped on one of the contract overrun Geissele SR-25 (Mark 6) mounts. Happy with the final setup.

Vortex razor hd 1-6 ….does great on my 17. Ive had issues with mk4 series leupold and cheaper vortex on a 17 previously however.

I had a great experience with the Elcan, doesn’t change the fact it has drawbacks. The ARMS mount sucks, the inability to dial for elevation limits the potential for precision shooting and making hits at distance, it’s heavy, the eye box isn’t good, it’s expensive. It’s still a great option for someone wanting to run the scar as a battle rifle with the option of having a little magnification. For those wanting to exploit the inherent accuracy of the scar and the advantage of 7.62 over 5.56 there are better options. |

I have a vortex 3-15 in an adm mount. It's a pretty heavy configuration, and I can't decide if I like it. I'd like to shave weight, but the more I look, I'm not finding very significant weight savings.
VCOG 1-8 would be my choice if budget wasn't an issue. |
