How much clearance is needed around an alignment rod to be safe? I recently sent my 7mm rem mag in to have the barrel threaded and the smith didn’t get it cut right the first time so I sent it back and this is the second attempt. I’m still not sure I feel comfortable shooting it as one side looks pretty tight. Should I be worried about this lack of clearance?

Looks ok to me. Not perfect but acceptable. As long as it's not touching you should be fine.

I'd send it too -to a different Smith.

But, if you want to keep sending it back to the same, hopefully he'll get it right, before you have a sub-16" barrel.
Three times the charm isn't acceptable in barrel threading.
No reason for it to come back like that a second time from any competent machinist.

All this assumes you've checked your suppressor on some other barrels, and they aligned properly.
