[Last Edit: SilasB]
If you've always wanted one, don't care about budget, inquire with your favorite Sig retailer about getting one ordered. The SKU is UAMCXA-SURG, ship date is 'December 2023'. You get the upper, the M4 adapter parts, two handguards (SD and low-profile), a non-pinned SLX556 w/ the titanium cage. They're only going to make as many as they get orders for.  Price is....steep. They're going to go for a minimum of 2.4X what they were first offered for back in 2016 (if I recall the year correctly) but never came to be.

I can't quite talk myself into it, but I do want that cage.

Edit: Image added

US SOCOM Extends Suppressed Upper Receiver Group (SURG) Contract for 5 More Years

It's probably because they are making more for socom. Makes sense that they would release some extras to the commercial market.

Rough calculation:

SLX556 - $1,100
11.5" 556 upper w/ M4 adapter - $2,000
Extra handguard - $200 ?
Titanium shroud - ??

SURG dust sprinkled over it -  $500

See, it all makes sense

Does this mean they will actually ship these in quantity to SOCOM as well?

I will have to mill this one over.

Looks like it includes a color matched telescoping folding stock, so that's $300 MSRP.

I'm kind of a fan of the handguard. Might be interested.

Awesome.  I always thought it was a great idea to adopt a suppressor and rifle in tandem instead of piecemeal.

@coregon

Seeing as this system dates back to 2018, how does the included suppressor compare to Sig’s modern offerings?

Having a hard time seeing this as something to have fun with shooting due to cost of hardware, though i guess for some its just cheaper to them than I...

Sig stuff really is all that huh?

For this offering, it's a current production can, SLX556 direct thread.

When you say this offering, are you referring to the .mil guns, the commercial guns or both?

Are you referring to the internals of the suppressor and the outside of the SURG looks more streamlined(the rear portion of the suppressor appears to be even with the rest of the suppressor body) and the titanium cage or is the most current version just a standard SLX556 and not the can shown in all the pictures?

"This offering" meaning the one you'd be able to buy.  Image aside, Sig has said that the SLX556 is what will ship.

SLX556 is the can that SURG is getting.  This offering us just piggy-backing off the production of the recent USSOCOM extension.

@coregon so for clarification, if we get this upper package. We would essentially be getting a contract overrun? or a civilian version of what SOCOM is receiving?

One that's bulkier but handles heat better for extended use.

One that's thinner/lighter but will get warmer faster, when not expecting higher round count.

Would be my guess, at least.

Given they currently owe me over $200 in refunds for goods non-delivered I would not recommend doing business with them.

@coregon

Will the SURG handguard be available on it's own at some point? Preferably in black?

I just noticed that the skinny SURG handguard looks like a longer version of the RSAR handguard.

Considering they are contract overrun items, this will be it and then you won't be finding them again, unless another contract overrun happens.

This is totally friggin badass - a contract overrun.

I have several suppressed 556 uppers already though, so that $4000 price tag is a hard one to justify...

But damn - that is cool as hell.

If they are military overrun units like we are being told I would expect them to be exactly the same.

There could be titanium in the heat shroud. It wouldn't really be a useful, difference maker material anywhere else (coming next, the MCX Spear LT TI - for $8k).

I expect these to be exactly the same as what is delivered to SOCOM and I suspect the titanium parts on military MCXs is nothing more than gun shop lore.

The only model mentioned to hsve titanium parts was the Spear-LT, not the Virtus line which the SURG is based on.

Shouldn't be lore either as Coregon mentioned the parts, doubt he'd lie about it just to start a rumor.

$4100 is too much for a upper and a suppressor. I'd pass. You can get a top tier upper and a nightforce ATACR for less money.

Besides, what is the difference between this and a regular MCX? Is the chrome-lined barrel the only difference?

There is in the heat shield at least confirmed by the brochure. However, I'm mainly asking about the steel inserts that we see on civilian mcx receivers. Which I  believed the LVAWs had titanium ones (could be wrong) so I was wondering if the SURGs the mil gets have them and if so do these also have them?

If you price the whole thing out then the price makes sense.  It's a very rare set up obviously.  If you are an MCX "whore" as someone said then you should be use to these prices.  Price of fame.
