Was doing a transfer at the LGS when I noticed “blem” 1895 SBLs for $1199 a pop. Hadn’t intended to drop over a grand today but seemed like too good of a deal to pass up! Only blem I can find is a slight scuff on the pistol grip

What’s the go to scope these days for a 45-70?

My Ruglin sports a Leupold VX2 1.5-4, they're discontinued now but leupold offers the "Freedom" series with the same specs.
Great rifles you should enjoy it.

I should’ve patented my offset rail I made when marlin first brought these out.  And I would’ve bought that blem in a second.

I like low power fixed, mainly cause they mount so low.  2x Leo on this is plenty for my use, elk.   It’ll cut cloverleaf’s at 50 yards on paper.

It's a 336 but, same pattern... I have a Burris 2.75x fixed on this and an 1886 in 45-70. It does the job quite well.

Eta, you definitely want the low mounts for this option. What's pictured are the medium mounts, and they're a touch higher than what I'd prefer...

Oh that’s slick. I’d go that route but I have the one with a rail.

Definitely interested in the low mounts though. Thanks for the replies!

Most all these guys get it.

If it is necessary to scope a lever gun it is best to use lower power and low rings .

I have quite a few lever guns and only two wear scopes , marlin 45/70 and a rare marlin in 375 winchester
