I have a new to me Ruger PC9 carbine I just bought. Got it for $500 from a local pawn shop. I would like to put an optic on it. I have astigmatism so red dots look like like starbursts to me. This carbine will be my yard gun. So close range shots will be the most likely shooting distance. Do you guys have any ideas for me?  TIA!

I agree that SLx is probably a good idea. It belongs into a "red dot" category, but is actually a prism. Its rericle is etched, so it works more like a scope.
One thing I don't like about it is how busy the symbology is. That may be a problem with astigmatism.
I'd suggest to visit a gun show and find an SLx 1x and look through it.

I have one of these on an extra AR15, small, compact 1x with etched reticle. Pretty budget friendly as well
