Why wouldn't you shoot it?

My boy isn't born just yet.  Still have 2 months to go.  It is a special gift for him.  He'll be the first one to shoot this rifle.

You know SCAR's are test fired by FN right?

It's the Trijicon RMR.

http://www.trijicon.com/user/parts/parts_new.cfm?categoryID=13

Yes, I'm lefty...all my righty buddies now hate to use my rifle

Video of me doing the transition from acog to RMR.  Acog was at 100yds, RMR at 25yds.  I'm doing the chicken wing way too much but this was the first time I tried the set up.  Watching yourself on video is a great way to realize all the stuff you're doing incorrectly.  Sorry about the random camera change halfway through...my buddy thinks he's Scorsese.

What kind of mount did  you use for your RMR ?   can that same mount fit a MS03 ?

Still doing research on my next rifle purchase, but for you long barrel SCAR owners living in NFA friendly states, I found that Tornado Technologies has an "SBR" package for the SCAR.

Marvin Pitts with Nefarious Arms does great barrel work, has credentials and is well known for his custom work in the industry.  I would not send my barrel anywhere else to be cut, crowned and rethreaded.

Cheers

Do you have any problems with that eo tech interfering while working the charging handle?

Seriously though. Every time I see a SCAR I want one even more. And you have yours set up how I want mine to be should I ever get the cash. Spectre, that SF, those rail panels, and a shorty VFG. You have good taste. Might stick with the full bbl though.

Seriously. I used to think of SCARs as the Glock of rifles: nothing fancy but does its job well. This, however, is a work of art. Hats off to you, sir.

A bad ass rifle needs a bad ass optic....

I switched out my Danger Close SF Scout mount mount for a Gear Sector mount.  I had to cut off the SCAR's forward sling loop to accomadate the bezel of SF mini-scout light (DC mount does not allow enough clearance either).  Note that the Scout 600 series can be used with either DC or GS  mount w/o cutting the sling loop.

Cheers

To me it looks the most "right" on the SCAR.
The only other optic I considered was an ACOG ECOS but for the same price I just went with the Elcan.
To me the SCAR + Elcan just makes for a great "period" rifle considering whats going on in Afghanistan right now and the equipment the guys fighting over there are using.

The old SpecterDR's weren't that great but the new ones are just fine.

I have heard the mounts come loose and you can lose zero when changing magnification.

ARMS mounts are what they are. The zero shift was fixed on gen II and gen II+ DR's. Even then, a lot of that was people thinking point of impact should be the same from 1x to 4x... sorry, but it doesn't work that way. There's a BDC reticle for a reason.

?????

Uh yeah, the point of aim and point of impact should not change just because you switch magnification.  Especially on a 1600 dollar scope.

For what it's worth, the Elcan could be really awesome, but there are some issues with it as it stands.

Where there's smoke, there's fire......at the very least the 145's suck a dick.  I wouldn't mind testing a DR though.....

Yeah, besides it being a few extra ounces heavier, It's way nicer than the PWS in the blast department.  I actually use it coyote hunting and believe it or not, makes shooting around vehicles tolerable without hearing protection.  I might eventually get the AAC Blackout after I get the paperwork back for the Sig 556P, but for now, the benefits of this setup are hard to ignore.  I tested it out in both gas settings and it still required me to leave it in the 12 o'clock postition otherwise it would short-stroke with green tip ball rounds.
