Eternal,
Can we get a few more pics of your 556 Pistol/SBR with the Blackout FH?  Thanks.

I will be playing with it later, so more pics to come.

So far 400 rounds without cleaning or lubing (I lubed it once with Magnalube) without a single hiccup in 15 degree weather.
I really need some real iron sights, i had to ditch the sig optic and the buis on this thing is a joke. Sig optic was unfindable on sunny day with snow.

I really dislike the far-too-tall flip up sights that come on the 556, so when I recently picked up a slightly used 556ER, the first thing I did was to swap them out for Swiss ones:

What 5.56/.223 ammo did you use on that hog?

That was an impressive exit wound!

We are just getting into hog hunting.

Went the first time on Wednesday morning.

My son got a shot off at one and hit it but we could not find it as it went into the brush
and onto another ranch.

We are using a 20" AR15 (Winchester 64gr PP) and I use my FAL (Winchester 150 silver tip).

I have been wanting a Sig 556 for a long time. Almost tempted to trade/sell the FAL to get a Sig.

That is the Entry wound of a Hornady 5.56mm NATO TAP 2 75 grain BTJHP @ 125 yards.

The Prvi 75 grain Match BTJHP is also a very effective one shot kill.

Recently picked up a slightly used 556ER (the one posted a few lines above).  I immediately did the following:
- Swapped out the lower for a Swiss lower
- Swapped the too-tall Sig Sauer emergency sights for Swiss lower-profile flip-up emergency sights
- Added SWR/Gemtech bi-lock to use my SWR Specwar 2 suppressor
- Swapped out the LaRue standard height mount for a LaRue RAS2 mount

I picked up a new SIG 551 SWAT black handguard and swapped all the furniture out for black SWAT furniture.

It balances pretty well:

I'm curious where you found a Swiss lower?  Did you already have the mags for it?  I'm a little confused why you would do this...  [scratches head]

Here's mine.  Just got it yesterday.

I really like this front sight:

But where can I find a correct height rear diopter sight to go with it?

Well, I found the diopter sight I was looking for on Sig's website.

But at $222, I think I'll pass.... For now!

Swapped out the Trijicon RX30 with its 6moa dot, and put it in on a (not-so-accurate) FAL.  Figured that the Sig needed something that could exploit its accuracy potential a bit more..  Hensoldt ZF24 on a BLITS mount.

The bayo lug was made with a Dremel tool; using a cast-off Colt "large pin" pivot pin.

Sling made from parts of ALICE pack straps and a SPEC-OPS "Mamba" sling.

The handguards were tightened up by SuperGlue-ing a half inch section of rubber band onto the bottom handguard piece (the part that touches the pivot pin).

Using the same materials, the receiver was tightened up by SuperGlue-ing several sections of rubber band underneath the rear pivot pin.  Works like a champ, and was easily accomplished.

Still waiting on my custom-made flash hider.  The chief benefit of which will be Vortex-like performance, while properly supporting a mounted bayonet.  The factory flash hider does not;  the bayonet ring is on a recessed portion of the 'hider, making for an unsatisfactory bayonet mount.

I bought a number of parts kits for the 551 and 552 over the years and have the lowers and other parts from these kits.  I have also been buying Swiss mags since the 1994 "Assault Weapon" ban sunset in 2004 in anticipation of being able to own a 55x variant in the US at some point.

When the 556 was released I continued buying 55x mags whenever I can find a good price (which is non-existent these days).

Why did I swap the lower out?  Because I have been a huge fan of the Swiss 55x series for over ten years and view the 556 as a great platform to convert into Swiss-spec clones of the 551 and 552.  While I like the idea of being able to use M16 pattern mags, especially the Magpul P-mag, I think the actual execution of the lower on the 556 leaves alot to be desired.  Their use of all that cheap TAPCO-looking furniture and not just using the Swiss folding stock mechanism from the get go were major blunders in my opinion.  I think the 556 Classic is a step in the right direction, has the new SwissArms-designed folding/collapsing stock that interfaces to the lower via the standard Swiss folding/locking mechanism.  I have one of these on order and will keep it in stock format so I can use M16 mags.

Congrats on your new rifle.  It is good to see the new front sight shipping on standard rifles now.  I think the Sig diopter rear is your only option.

I recommend you pick up a pair of the 551 SWAT handguards and swap them out for the "trirail" model that came on your rifle.  That swap alone will really improve the way your rifle feels in your hands.

I'm more-or-less blind in my right eye, but right handed.  So, right handed/left eyed = a high mount requirement.

Likewise, the optics on my AR's are just fine being mounted up on the carry handle.

I agree.

I switched out the plastic buffer tube today with an aluminum one I had lying around the house.  I just didn't like the idea of a plastic stock extension.  The CTR is 10,000 times better than the original stock.

If I decide to go with a railed forearm, I will go with the Troy Battlerail that just got released at SHOT show.

I also installed a Phantom flash hider on my rifle until I can find a AAC flash hider to mount my AAC M4-2000.

Until I get the diopter sight, I'll just use the folding rear sight.  In order to keep it in the "up" position, I stuck a single piece of a ladder rail cover in front of the sight.

I tried a google search on the troy battle rail and only came up with AR styles.  Any idea when it will be avail for the SIG and how much $$?

As I wait for my Classic to arrive.....

I was at the gun show today when I spotted this private sale NIB 556, so I figured I'd buy it as spare parts/backup.

I've owned a lot of AKs and built/owned a lot of FALs.

I'm really digging this gun.

AK functionality, adjustable gas ala FAL and acceptable ergonomics.

I have a set of 551 handguards in my parts pile that I'll get around to taking some pics with.

I look forward to giving this weapon a shakedown.

With 551 hand guards and a modified AR-15 Harris bipod adaptor:

Version 3.0
Version 3.1

Finally got my custom flash hider in.  Also refinished the furniture.  It previously wasn't prepped satisfactorily, and the paint on the forend would come off very easily.  I actually read the directions on the paint can this time

Note also that the bayonet handle has been refinished in the same color.  Yet another change was the replacement of my home-made bayonet lug with a commercial unit.  The one I made suffered from a fatal flaw- too small in diameter.

Hey Gunny, can't you put the trijicon on a different mount, and co-witness?

Or do you prefer the clear field of sight?

BTW- I'm digging your new sights!

Even without the riser (which is on there for a good reason), the Reflex will not co-witness with the Sig sights.  Tried it a couple hours ago...  I have to have a high mounted optic in order to shoot right handed/left eyed.  Can't see out of my right eye...

Shooting left handed is certainly do-able on the range, but is slow.  Slow=dead.

If'n I ever have to remove the optic, I'll have to transition to shooting left handed.

Im very impressed with the Duracoat products.

So rather than a castle nut, there's essentially a clamp that bolts everything in place?

been off the  site  for a few days ,  sorry for the delay

yes it's the ACE  however I bought that 556 used & it had the upgraded stock & sights installed already

I haven't taken the stock off the lower but it's VERY sturdy ,  no flex or play at all .
I plan on using that lower/stock combo on the pistol upper when my Form  1 arrives
