green handguards for mine and a CTR that'll have a grind to fit pad on it to give it a normal butt.

What 5.56/.223 ammo did you use on that hog?
That was an impressive exit wound! We are just getting into hog hunting. Went the first time on Wednesday morning. My son got a shot off at one and hit it but we could not find it as it went into the brush and onto another ranch. We are using a 20" AR15 (Winchester 64gr PP) and I use my FAL (Winchester 150 silver tip). I have been wanting a Sig 556 for a long time. Almost tempted to trade/sell the FAL to get a Sig. EMSflyer |

EMSflyer That is the Entry wound of a Hornady 5.56mm NATO TAP 2 75 grain BTJHP @ 125 yards. The Prvi 75 grain Match BTJHP is also a very effective one shot kill. |

It balances pretty well: http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/518/dsc02752uo2.jpg I'm curious where you found a Swiss lower? Did you already have the mags for it? I'm a little confused why you would do this... [scratches head] Here's mine. Just got it yesterday. I really like this front sight: But where can I find a correct height rear diopter sight to go with it? |

[scratches head] I bought a number of parts kits for the 551 and 552 over the years and have the lowers and other parts from these kits. I have also been buying Swiss mags since the 1994 "Assault Weapon" ban sunset in 2004 in anticipation of being able to own a 55x variant in the US at some point. When the 556 was released I continued buying 55x mags whenever I can find a good price (which is non-existent these days). Why did I swap the lower out? Because I have been a huge fan of the Swiss 55x series for over ten years and view the 556 as a great platform to convert into Swiss-spec clones of the 551 and 552. While I like the idea of being able to use M16 pattern mags, especially the Magpul P-mag, I think the actual execution of the lower on the 556 leaves alot to be desired. Their use of all that cheap TAPCO-looking furniture and not just using the Swiss folding stock mechanism from the get go were major blunders in my opinion. I think the 556 Classic is a step in the right direction, has the new SwissArms-designed folding/collapsing stock that interfaces to the lower via the standard Swiss folding/locking mechanism. I have one of these on order and will keep it in stock format so I can use M16 mags. Originally Posted By jwise:

It is good to see the new front sight shipping on standard rifles now. I think the Sig diopter rear is your only option. I recommend you pick up a pair of the 551 SWAT handguards and swap them out for the "trirail" model that came on your rifle. That swap alone will really improve the way your rifle feels in your hands. |

Hey Gunny, can't you put the trijicon on a different mount, and co-witness?
Or do you prefer the clear field of sight? BTW- I'm digging your new sights! |

I plan on using that lower/stock combo on the pistol upper when my Form 1 arrives |
