Any update on if and or when these will be imported? The last press I saw on it was in 2021…

Ares patent on the Shrike/MCR was awarded in 2006 and doesn’t expire until 2029.

I doubt these can be imported until after the patent expires.

Never thought of that, thanks. Is that also why Shrike has no US competitors?

I emailed them last year and was told they didnt do direct US sales and had an exclusive import deal with .....either a landscape company or a small indoor range in OK. I'll have to find the email to the  name, but it didnt seem like either business was a viable importer.

ETA: "System Defence has an exclusive importer in USA. if you interested with our products. You should contact with SHAWNEE OUTDOOR LLC"
I replied with a request for Shawnee Outdoor LLC's contact info and never got a reply.

Geoff Herring’s patent covers any and all drop-on rifle caliber beltfed AR15/M16 upper.

Until his patent expires, we won’t see any competitors.

That’s unfortunate.

Here is the thread from last year: MFR 56

Whatever your thoughts on Herring, a patent is a patent and it protects his IP.

I believe a few of them have popped up in Ukraine.

System Defence is a Turkish front corp. essentially. Their take seems to be a military purpose-driven, open-bolt version of the MCR.

His patent on the upper receiver fed mech expired in '20 I think. His patent on the piston driven bolt and M249 cut lower receiver are still in effect.

Ok so if this guy Geoff held patents on belt fed AR uppers, how did Valkyrie Arms get theirs built?

I wish there was more info out there on it. I would love to get my hands on one.

It's an entirely different system. The Shrike system that Ares/Geoff Herring designed and patented is a separate upper that drop on any unmodified lower. It uses all proprietary parts.

The Ciener/Valkyrie/Slidefire beltfed design uses standard AR lower/upper/barrel. The receivers are cut to accept the beltfed mechanism and the bolt carrier is cut to drive the feed mech.

Valkyrie Armament offered to do conversions on customers rifles, I've read the price was $3k ish. The Ciener and VA conversions use a modified link - there's a guide fin in the link ejection chute and the links need to be cut to fit through the ejection chute.

Slidefire improved the design and briefly marketed complete rifles (Colt 6920s) with the beltfed conversions already done for $4k ish. The Slidefire version uses standard unmodified M27 links

Some great pictures and explanation in this article that came out a few months ago.

Nice. Thanks. Ye I would love for more companies to get into the belt fed stuff. Esp with FRT and all the other awesome advances in triggers.
