TNVC Training just completed a full Nightfighter 101 (in addition to Try Before You Buy and Nightfighter 201) at the Hawaii of the Midwest…Alliance Police Training Facility in Alliance Ohio. If you know you know…we consider Alliance our home field and it is ALWAYS good to go home. Most of us grew up under the tutelage of a little short Irish cop from the NYPD here and it’s a world class facility and arguably one of the best places to train in the country. Joe Weyer runs this amazing place, and it is a privilege to call him not only a mentor, but a close personal friend.
If you know Alliance, well, just be prepared for anything the weather gods throw at you. April should be warm and balmy spring days and gentle nights, right? Snow, sleet, little rain, warm sun…pretty much every weather effect was presented to the team as we trained through the weekend. We publish detailed packing lists and welcome letters with an initial push of weather data, but wow, be prepared for all of it when you’re training here.
This class was one of few in recent history where ALL students rolled in with full complements of goggles, everything from monocular systems to binos. It is refreshing to see a perceived stigma of “I only have a PVS-14” slowly getting washed out of everyone’s lexicon. Sure binos are cool and stereoscopic vision is a thing, but ANY goggles on your head exercising the only super power you can purchase is awesome. We didn’t see anyone suffering from being able to see in the dark with only one tube. Field of view is a thing for ALL systems though, gotta turn your head and scan when the lights go out and the 40-degree tubes go in front of your face.
We did see several guns choke, some mechanical and some lube based. In short…lube your rifles well, if you think you have enough on there, ADD MORE. While we recommend students to “run what they brung,” the AR remains the most reliable and ergonomic platform out there for work, particularly when you’re operating in a single focal plane and easy ergonomics can be a great help.
This was a great class full of solid shooters, from armed professionals to average earth people. These students clicked and drove the OPTEMPO well. It was a pleasure to have friends in the class too.
We’ll be back home this fall for another run of Try Before You Buy, Nightfighter 101 and Nightfighter 201, a few seats still available across all three.
Additionally, several companies generously step up to support students with swag, door prizes and coupon codes for their attendance. We greatly appreciate their generosity and are proud to have them associated with our training program.
