TNVC recently completed our first Nightfighter 201 class of the year in Alliance, Ohio April 05-07. This came after a full Try Before You Buy Event on April 04 as well as Nightfighter 101 that was conducted April 06-07. It was great to flood the Alliance area with a good number of TNVC students.
The class had 14 students. It was unique in that we had more LE officers in class than civilians. It allowed for some great discussion about NVG technology and agency policy with viewpoints from both sides.
It always great to train in Alliance. It really is our “home away from home” and many of the TNVC instructors met as students at Alliance classes well over a decade ago. Alliance has access to a great indoor facility that we can use for nights 2 and 3. It has so much space we can set it up so that students never see the same rooms twice. We simply cannot say enough about Joe Weyer. He is a great friend and a huge asset to the training community.
The weather for this course was typical Alliance in April. Day 1 saw some sun, clouds, rain, and snow…..sometimes at same time. Being in a heated indoor environment where we can turn out the lights for days 2 and 3 makes for very comfortable training and allows us to start our days a little earlier not having to wait for sunset.
We saw a wide spread of night vision devices and student experience in class. One student had a set of PVS-7s and did just fine with them. We did not experience any night vision gear related issues in the class. Student gear issues were non-existent. This is the benefit of a level 2 class—a lot of the gear shakedown occurs in Nightfighter 101, and students know what works for them.
The NF201 course builds on the skills learned in NF101 and takes it up in both tempo and difficulty. It is really a problem solving course—applying the technologies to help you solve problems in a variety of environments. This class is a logical progression of NF101. Students are given more freedom as to “how” to solve the problem. They determine the who, what, where, when and why problems are solved. However, students must be able to explain their decisions.
Additionally, several companies generously step up to support students with swag, door prizes and coupon codes for their attendance. We greatly appreciate their generosity and are proud to have them associated with our training program.
