Now, cryocooled thermal surveillance grade thermal doesn’t care too much. It’ll see contrast in the desert and cut through the mirage while doing it.

The first time I took my AGM 25-256 out to sight it in on a rifle, it was cold enough in the morning the steel plates weren't showing much difference, and heating packs would have been preferred.
The last time I had it out, it was about 65F, and the sun had had time to warm the 18" steel targets. They were plainly visible out to 950yrds. I was pretty surprised. I had heating packs ready, as well as thermal tape, I'd used before.
Black hot-
Closest steel is 200m. Reticle is near the 300m target. Auto sensor is focusing on the 700m target. Buffalo is 950yrds.
