I hope he's still around, his Rhodesian FAL chest rigs are fantastic. |

4 FAL mags will fit in a 100rd saw pouch. Just saying.

Sarco makes a repro of the Rhodesian chest rig. I'm on the way to work but will find a link for it if no one else has after I get off.

Now that you mention it, I suppose I'm going to have to get a couple. This place never ceases to cost me money, and in this case, I did it to myself... |

I may be wrong on the 6. He would also custom make a rig as well. I have a few of his in different camo patterns. First rate work. Don’t know if he’s still around, you’d have to check at the falfiles because I no longer have his contact info. Edit, god I hate auto spell check |

And those things will hold more than just 4 magazines. I've gotten 2 in each main pocket and 1 in each other pocket. It isn't the best, as it is 1970's technology, but does work. |

I bought a 4 mag chest rig off of eBay from a seller called Commonwealthsupplyguy. He had a 6 mag rig also. It was a copy of the Rhodesian chest rig. Made from heavy canvas. Stitching was very tight and the rig was well made.

I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me and say "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

I have one of ABN101327's 5 pocket chest rigs, I got it a long time ago and it's very well made.
I took it to the range when I got it and ran some drills with it once and thought it was super cool at the time. I have not used it much apart from storing loaded mags in it. So I was going through a bunch of my stuff the other day and put that chest rig on and walked around the house with it and one of the FALs. Guess what, It's really uncomfortable. Maybe it's because I'm older and more broken now, I don't know. The straps are too narrow and it just seems clunky. Would still be good to use if you were in a vehicle a lot maybe. I have some British PLCE and some old US Alice gear and prefer both for FAL mags over the Rhodie chest rigs. |
|
|
I just bought 2 from Sarco. Thanks for the link. I'll add KYWI inserts.

We are in the middle of a Communist Revolution in the USA.
There is no voting our way out of this. |
I wish someone would make affordable reproductions of the Rhodesian
"Fire Force" vests. Would be way more comfortable than the chest rig I think. Anyone know who makes one? |
|
|
|
To those who have gone before us. May we earn what they have given.
|
Very cool but spendy.
I was going to try and talk my wife into making a Fireforce vest when she gets her machine figured out. But doubt we will get around to it due to being so busy with grandson these days. He's going to inherit some nice FALs one day lol |
|
|
It seems like a Fireforce vest would be pretty easy to figure out.
Those were kind of homemade looking anyhow. Basic vest pattern for multiple sizes, de-construct some M14 single mag pouches and use that for mag pouch patterns. Same with canteen pouches. Could get OD materiel or Rhodie pattern. We are too busy chasing grandkids to work on it unfortunately. |

Well-made, but there was too much space in each cell- not enough to stuff another mag in, but enough for the mag to flop around and make noise against the backside of the snap. I bought a couple of those Indian-made "Fereday & Sons" rigs, and the mags fit better. The shoulder straps were a little wider, too. Stitching was good enough on both of mine. OP, check out What Price Glory for their Pattern 69 web gear. If you want something more modern, get a Tactical Tailor chest rig and throw on however many mag pouches as you like. |

I'm not aware of a "Pattern 58" chest rig - and when I was in, we had that pattern of webbing & SLR's on issue Not much changed a few years later when I spent time as a civvi QM running the stores at an army base THE most common chest rigs of the period were made by Arktis - but they were a private purchase item |

Maybe he's thinking of a Canadian rig? I forget which system preceded the Pattern 82, but they both had rigs for 30-round FAL mags for use with the C2.
Also, Kommando Store has a modern rig inspired by the SA Pattern 83 that they are making and calling their Pattern 84 chest rig. |

I vastly prefer a chest rig. There's less flopping around, and it retains far less heat. |

Whiskey Two Four makes a really nice 5 mag chest rig. I have one of his 5.56 rigs and it is exceptional.

I looked everywhere for a rig that would carry at least 6 FAL mags comfortably. I ended up buying a Condor modular vest and four double 7.62 mag pouches for it. I haven't worn it for a long period of time with loaded mags, but I expect it will do what it is designed to do.

I use the type 63 SKS pouch. FAL and M14 mags fit very vell and the flaps close also.

My Rhodesian Chest Rig will hold 8 steel mags, two in each pocket. I think
the plastic mags would be too thick to allow two though. |

Amazon, search Rhodesian Chest Rig, they have them with 4pocket and a grenade pouch on either side and
without. I got the one without and paid $26. Again it will hold 2 mags per pouch, I tried G3 mags it will only hold one per. The chines rig will hold a mag in each pocket ( 7?)
If it had something other than the wooden toggles they would be good. If your handy then You can probably whip something useful up for cheap. |

If you don't want closed top pouches, I would get a Tactical Tailor Fight Light Mini MAV with a triple Esstac KYWI and a Blue Force Gear Ten Speed pouch on the front. |

The Portuguese made BAR belts are cool if you want to carry a bunch of mags. The pockets are sized to hold FAL, AR-10, and G3 mags and hold a dozen total. I picked one up in unissued condition plus some M1956 suspenders to go with it. |
