I genuinely feel bad for you young whippersnappers when you face pricetags of 800+ for a 1903 Springfields and the like. My first 1903 was in 1968 for $35 and it was primo. My first gun book was Hatcher's Notebook. I have Brophy's book as well.

This one is one of the Greek returns via CMP. Its a double heattreat high number receiver with bbl date of 1918. I can't say I was super jazzed at this one. The inletting is horrible. I think these were 450 with C stock.

I didn't like the green parkerizing.

The 2nd rifle is a Remington m/1903 with bbl 3-42. Sold this later at gunshow.

Last sales catalog from Martin Retting in Culver City, Calif. This illustrates pre-68 prices. I have the whole catalog. Any parts you need to make your rifle ~correct~ step right up....

Unless you are talking about modern CMP prices you are behind on the current pricing.  Most 1903s are going north of 1000 for a 1903a3 and higher for an older 1903 in good shape.

Nice looking rifles, I have a couple 03A3s but really want to find a nice high number Rock Island 1903, easier said than done

Also min wage was $7.25 so that 49.99 rifle would have cost over a months worth of salary back than..

We look at the price and say man they were cheap.. its all relative...
